It’s carnival time in Lower Milford

If it’s June, it’s carnival time at the Lower Milford Fire Company on Limeport Pike. This year’s carnival will be held June 13 to 16. Grounds open nightly 6 p.m. and live music begins 7 p.m. Fireworks will be held June 15, beginning at dusk.

There will be rides, games, a silent auction, a beer pavilion and much more. For a list of the bands who will appear, details on the silent auction and other information, check out the Lower Milford Fire Company online.

Enjoy breakfast May 6 with the Western District Fire Company

Spring finally seems to have arrived and Salem United Methodist Church will celebrate by holding Springfest 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 5 at the church, 6440 Powder Valley Road, Zionsville. The event will feature homemade baked goods, a light lunch, flea market items, flowers for your garden, plus hanging plants for sale. There will be some free items too. Celebrate spring with an Earth Day community cleanup April 14

Now that Easter’s over, we’re all more than ready for spring, particularly after that cold, miserable, snowy March.

Once again, the Joint Environmental Advisory Council of Emmaus and Upper Milford Township will celebrate spring by sponsoring an Earth Day community cleanup. It will be held 8:30 a.m. to noon April 14. Participants will meet at Emmaus Community Park for coffee and to get organized, then start cleaning up by 9 a.m. Instructions and directions to all the cleanup sites will be provided at the park.

St. Peters Union Church to hold spring bazaar

It doesn’t feel like spring as I write this, but spring is in the air!

St. Peter’s Union Church, 7863 St. Peter’s Road, Macungie, will hold its spring bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24. The bazaar features raffles, barbecue, baked goods, craft and vendor tables, a light lunch and the church’s popular homemade soup.

You can pre-order quarts of chicken pot pie, beef vegetable soup or chicken corn noodle soup before March 18 by calling Ron at 610-845-2525 during the day or Deb in the evening at 610-367-8307.

Vendors are welcome. Call Janet at 610-845-8070 to rent a table.

Redistricting reform supported

At a brief meeting Feb. 15, Upper Milford Township supervisors passed a resolution supporting FairDistrictPA’s efforts to reform the redistricting process. FairDistrictsPA is a statewide group advocating for reform to make the process of redistricting less partisan. The group is supporting two bills in the state legislature, Senate Bill 22 and House Bill 722, which would create an independent commission to draw congressional and legislative district lines.

Registration is open and volunteers are needed

It may be cold outside, but the Upper Milford Youth Association reminds us it’s time to think spring! Registration for recreational spring soccer, ages five to nine, is now open. Register at www.umya.org using the “Register Online” link in the upper left hand side navigation menu. Details for the soccer programs can be found on the home page as well as the under the “Register Online” link.

Upper Milford history buffs meet Jan. 25

The first meeting of the Upper Milford Historical Society for 2018 will be 7 p.m. Jan. 25, in the Upper Milford Township building. It will be the society’s traditional discovery night, when members and guests are invited to bring in pictures, stories, items, etc. of historical interest to share.

New, however, are the changes made to the society’s room, aiming to showcase local people and historical materials more comfortably. Attendees will want to check out the room.

Santa Claus will be in Vera Cruz Dec. 16

It’s December and the Christmas holiday is upon us. I hope you will all find time for some peace and quiet with family during this hectic season. And start getting used to writing 2018!

Santa Claus will visit the Vera Cruz firehouse, 4093 Main Road West, Dec. 16, for photos and visits with children. Doors open 10:30 a.m. and the guest of honor arrives about 10:45 a.m. Photos will be taken, for a cost, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
