COLUMN: Eagles rally behind Reid in tough time

The tragedy that engulfed the Philadelphia Eagles organization Sunday morning was one of shock and sadness with the sudden death of Garrett Reid.

The 29-year-old son of head coach Andy Reid was found unresponsive in a Lehigh University dorm room at 7:20 am Sunday when he was found by an Eagles official.

The aftermath and questions that remain are now part of the puzzle that the Reid family, Eagles organization and fans seek in the wake of a family tragedy.

Arguably the most successful boys team at Emmaus last year was the volleyball squad.

The Green Hornets (19-3, 11-1) brought home gold in both the league and district playoffs. In the District 11 final, they knocked off rival Parkland in the fifth and final set to qualify for the state tournament. Emmaus dominated District 11 all season, and that was due in large part to the play and leadership of senior Travis Mintzer.

The Lower Macungie Force went undefeated at its beach soccer tournament held in Wildwood, New Jersey in July. The team decisively won its games 8-0, 7-1, 6-0, and 7-0 to win its Under 10 age group bracket.

It's been a while since the Emmaus boys basketball team has beaten Parkland.

The Trojans snapped a couple of winning streaks for the Green Hornets last year, winning three games during the 2011-12 high school season. This summer they were 56-49 winners over Emmaus in a Stellar Summer League Game. The Green Hornets were even unlucky enough to face a hot Parkland JV team in the Stellar "Catch A Rising Star" Showcase and lose that one.
