Friday, November 2, 2012 by MIKE HAINES in HS Sports

Linsdey Bray has been on the Emmaus cross country team all four years of high school. She always wanted to run in the PIAA State Championship meet, but was unable to qualify her first three years.

Last Wednesday's District 11 Championship Meet was her last chance to earn a trip to states, and the senior came through.

Bray ran the race in 20 minutes and 21 seconds to finish in eighth place and earn a spot at this weekend's state meet in Hershey.

"I'm very excited," said...

Shafnisky show spoils Hornet Homecoming

Thursday, October 25, 2012 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The blue print was set; the strategy was known stop Nick Shafnisky and have a chance to win. But the senior quarterback, and Lehigh commit, didn't cooperate. His four touchdowns, and 373 total yards of offense, powered Whitehall past Emmaus 27-14 on Homecoming night last Friday.

Earlier in the week, head coach Joe Bottiglieri noted the importance of slowing down the Zephyrs catalyst. The Green Hornets defense did all they can to keep them in the game, but Shafnisky moved the ball...

Even though it was their ninth straight Lehigh Valley Conference Championship, the winning never gets old for veteran coach Sue Butz-Stavin, who is in her 37th season as the head coach of the Emmaus field hockey team.

The latest triumph was a 4-0 win over Liberty, a team that handed Emmaus their only loss of the regular season. The win stretched the new Emmaus win streak to 12 games, putting them at 19-1 on the season.

"It's always nice to win and I'm always happy for the girls...

Nazareth game a must win

Thursday, October 25, 2012 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Emmaus football team was 4-2 heading into its previous road game two weeks ago against a Liberty team that hadn't tasted a victory yet in the 2012 season. The Green Hornets have lost their last two games, including a 27-14 homecoming loss to Whitehall last week. Emmaus (4-4) needs one win over the final two games to have a shot at a postseason berth.

"We had a short practice [Monday]," said head coach Joe Bottiglieri. "The kids came out, did a good job and were very focused. They'...

Thursday, October 25, 2012 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Emmaus seniors AJ Bishop and Ben Roda have been playing soccer together since they were eight years old. The chemistry the two possess on the field is clearly evident.

And during last Thursday's LVC boys soccer championship game against Parkland, that cohesion was on full display during the season's biggest moment thus far.

Bishop connected with his Hornet teammate early in the second half to break a scoreless tie, and Roda added his second goal of the game in double-overtime...

Volleyball gets past Golden Hawks

Thursday, October 25, 2012 by PETER CAR in HS Sports

Whether it was a bout of bad luck or unnerving news from an opponents point of of view, the loss of Bethlehem Catholic's Lauren Hess before Monday's Lehigh Valley Conference volleyball semifinals was important.

Hess, who has been one of the area's top players all season, couldn't play because of an eye infection and the domino effect proceeded.

The Hawks, who swept Emmaus during the regular season, lost in three games Monday night 25-14, 25-23, 25-19 at Liberty's Memorial...

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Both the Emmaus and Parkland girls cross country teams remained undefeated entering last week's meet at Lehigh Valley Parkway that also included Whitehall and Central Catholic.

And the final league meet figured to come down to the Hornets and Trojans for the regular season league title.

However, despite the Hornets getting two runners in the top four Hanna Brosky (3rd 19:53) and Lindsey Bray (4th 20:03) Emmaus couldn't overcome the Trojans' third, fourth and fifth runners....
