The boys 100-yard breaststroke could be interesting. Emmaus has four swimmers, all in the final heat for the event, including top-seeded Carter Paules, the only qualifier with a time under one minute.

Paules will be challenged by teammates Marc Primelo, David Larsen and Jordan...

The Lehigh Valley Conference champion Hurricanes have been one of the hottest teams in the league as of late, winning 10 of 12 coming into this one. But the Green Hornets did not back down, especially after a six-point loss at...

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 by ROD FRISCO Special to the Press in HS Sports

With the debate over the length of the PIAA football season long in the rearview mirror, it would seem that football is status quo at the PIAA Board of Directors level.

It is not.

The PIAA Board is currently embroiled in a discussion - some might call it a battle - over how to handle a proposed heat acclimatization program that, no matter how it is implemented, will greatly affect the start of the football practice.

Prompted by concerns from the PIAA's Sports Medicine...

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

It may have taken Steph Schaeffer until her final opportunity of the season to qualify for districts in the 100-yard butterfly, but she didn't waste any time at the last chance meet to be sure to swim her way into the postseason.

In the butterfly event, Schaeffer picked up a win easily qualified for districts, finishing roughly 2.5 seconds faster than the time she needed to qualify. Schaeffer also attempted to qualify in the 100-yard breaststroke, but fell short of the necessary time...

Hornets boys prepare for district playoff run

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

At this time last year the Emmaus boys basketball team was heading into the District 11 tournament as the Lehigh Valley Conference champions. With the loss of some talented seniors, and a well-rounded conference, the Green Hornets missed the league playoffs by one game, but look toward a wide open Class 4A field.

Number 7 seed Emmaus (11-11) will face 10th-seeded Pleasant Valley (13-10) in the opening round Wednesday night at Emmaus. And head coach Steve Yoder has one main thing in...

Future looks bright for Wambold

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

When you set a goal, it's supposed to be one that isn't necessarily easy to reach, but also is realistic.

Golfer Kyle Wambold set a goal for himself that nobody thought would be easy and some thought might not truly be realistic. As it turned out, Wambold's goal - to finish the high school golf season with an average under 70 - wasn't always easy, but he made it realistic; and most importantly, achieved his goal.

When all of the scores were tallied, Wambold finished the season...
