Hornets advance four to regionals

It's the game of numbers that every wrestling coach plays in their head before they enter the individual postseason.

Qualifying a certain number of wrestlers through each round of the postseason is always an ambitious foray, and for Emmaus head coach Jeff Arbushites, last weekend's results from the District 11 3A wrestling tournament weren't as bountiful as he thought, but were far from bare.

VEWL Varsity wrestlers end successful season

The East Penn youth varsity wrestling teams recently finished up their season. There were 30 wrestlers who competed at the varsity level in the Valley Elementary Wrestling league (VEWL) and they participated in 14 dual meets, two team tournaments and an end of season league tournament.

Divers have strong showing at district meet

If you wanted any further proof that the Emmaus diving program is on the right path, look no further than Saturday's at the District 11 diving championships, hosted by the Hornets.

While there aren't any Emmaus divers heading to the PIAA competition next month, the Hornets came up just short and saw some of their young divers turn in strong performances to provide a lot of hope for the future.

Lower Mac 5th/6th grade girls capture LVL crown

Lower Macungie's girls 5th/6th grade travel basketball team capped an undefeated season with a 29-27 championship win over In The Zone in the Lehigh Valley League.

Lower Mac finished the regular season 10-0 with an average margin of victory of 23 points. In the playoffs Lower Mac defeated Catasaqua (39-6), Northern Lehigh (31-10), the Canes (32-18) and In The Zone to complete the championship run.

Including other tournaments Lower Mac rattled off 19 consecutive wins.

Swimmers ready to chase District 11 glory

After a long season that saw the Emmaus boys capture the Lehigh Valley Conference championship, the Emmaus swim teams are gearing up for the District 11 Championships this weekend at Parkland High School.

The boys 100-yard breaststroke could be interesting. Emmaus has four swimmers, all in the final heat for the event, including top-seeded Carter Paules, the only qualifier with a time under one minute.

Deshawn Oyeniyi nailed a three-pointer and KJ Williams converted a steal to a dunk after the ensuing inbound pass late in overtime, and No. 2 seed Liberty defeated No. 7 seed Emmaus 52-49 Saturday night at Allen High School in the District 11 4A quarterfinals.

Youth wrestlers finish season

The East Penn youth exhibition and Junior Varsity wrestling teams recently finished up their season. They participated in 10 JV dual meets, four Friday night exhibition duals and three tournaments. On the weekend of February 2-3 they completed the final events, which were the two end-of-season Valley Elementary Wrestling League (VEWL) tournaments. Fifty wrestlers from the East Penn program participated in this event with 18 individuals placing in the top four of their weight class.

The Emmaus diving program continued its development and placed five divers into the district meet scheduled for this Saturday. The Emmaus divers will enjoy somewhat of a home-pool advantage, with the meet being held at the high school this year.

With the debate over the length of the PIAA football season long in the rearview mirror, it would seem that football is status quo at the PIAA Board of Directors level.

The Emmaus wrestlers are preparing for the District 11 individual championships which take place Friday and Saturday at Liberty High School.

The Hornets, who made the District 11 Duals this season, boast a mix of youth and experience that will all be trying to advance to the Northeast Regional the following week. The top six placewinners from District 11 move on to regionals. Seedings for the district tournament are scheduled to be released on Wednesday night.
