Shafnisky show spoils Hornet Homecoming

Thursday, October 25, 2012 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The blue print was set; the strategy was known stop Nick Shafnisky and have a chance to win. But the senior quarterback, and Lehigh commit, didn't cooperate. His four touchdowns, and 373 total yards of offense, powered Whitehall past Emmaus 27-14 on Homecoming night last Friday.

Earlier in the week, head coach Joe Bottiglieri noted the importance of slowing down the Zephyrs catalyst. The Green Hornets defense did all they can to keep them in the game, but Shafnisky moved the ball...

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

The girls soccer team rattled off eight wins in a row seven of them shutouts to finish the season, but it wasn't good enough to qualify for the Lehigh Valley Conference playoffs. It was good enough though, to qualify for the District 11 tournament, which starts next week.

The team will use its week off to practice and prepare for districts, hoping that it can keep the edge that saw the Hornets turn what was going to be a lackluster season into one where they were able to get past an...

The Emmaus football team erased a 21-3 third quarter deficit against Liberty on Friday night at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium and it seemed evident the Hornets' final-minute score would be enough to overcome their sluggish first half of play.

Quarterback Andrew Kerson connected with wideout Jacob Maehrer in the right corner of the end zone with just 49 seconds remaining in the game. Maehrer's catch, as he maintained possession while falling to the ground, gave the Hornets a...

Field hockey is still team to beat

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

While it may have lost a long winning streak that stretched over nine seasons, the year ended in a very familiar way for the Emmaus field hockey team as the top seed in the LVC playoffs a likely high seed in the district playoffs.
