Saturday, June 8, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

With both the boys and girls soccer seasons in the fall for the first time this year, the 32nd Annual Lions All-Star Soccer Classic was played nearly six months after the final kick for many of these local high school area players.

The Mountain Valley Conference/Colonial League boys gave up three goals in losing 3-0 to the Lehigh Valley Conference all-stars. The girls teams tied 2-2 in a rain shortened game. Both games were played last Sunday afternoon at Whitehall High School.

The Emmaus softball season came to a rough end when Parkland used a six-run fifth inning and a two-run sixth inning to break open the meeting of the two rivals in the District 11 quarterfinal matchup, grabbing a 10-0 win.

The two teams battled through the first four innings, with Parkland pushing across two second-inning runs, but collecting just a hit and a walk outside of that inning.

Parkland's fifth inning opened on a somewhat controversial note. Pitcher Morgan Rentzheimer...

Brosky ninth, Schlegl 12th at states

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

For the second straight year, Hannah Brosky came just one place away from a state medal. The Emmaus junior finished ninth last weekend in the Class AAA girls 800-meter run at the PIAA Championships, held each year at Shippensburg University.

Top-10 finishes are usually gleeful moments for athletes at the state meet. However, Brosky left with a bad taste in her mouth.

"I'm definitely disappointed," she said. "It's frustrating finishing the same place as last year when I have had...

Emmaus stuns Whitehall

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 by PETER CAR in HS Sports

It was a shocking victory that left Whitehall rattled, but one that made everyone supporting Emmaus feel young again.

The Green Hornets made a miraculous comeback in the fifth game of the District 11 AAA volleyball finals last Thursday to shock everyone in Whitehall's gymnasium.

Emmaus stared down the barrel of a 13-6 deficit in the fifth and final game and didn't blink, as the Hornets finished the game on a 9-0 run to steal the fifth game by a 15-13 score.

It was a...

District champs want more The Emmaus boys lacrosse team wants to make a run in the state playoffs

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Ever since a defeat to Central Catholic in last year's district boys lacrosse title game, Emmaus has adopted a 'not content' mentality after feeling a sense of disrespect from the Vikings.

Fast forward a year, and it was a different story this time around.

Behind four goals from Nick Tonno and five scores after intermission, the Hornets (17-6 overall; 8-2 in LVC) got a revenge with their 8-4 defeat of the Vikings (13-6 overall; 6-4 in LVC) in Friday's District 11 AAAA...

Emmaus falls to Mounties in districts

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

Baseball coach John Schreiner just wrapped up his 16th season at the helm of the Emmaus Hornets and it turned out to be a disappointing endeavor. Emmaus fell to Stroudsburg 8-5 in the District 11 playoffs.

The Hornets made four errors in the game and grounded into four double-plays, that cost them at key points in the game.

"Trouble fielding the ball again and we left too many outs out there again," lamented Schreiner. "It's been our problem all year and then when our pitching...

Cuthbert named head coach

Wednesday, May 22, 2013 by MIKE HAINES in HS Sports

Every once in a while, the right coach gets together with just the right team at exactly the right time.

Like Belichick and the Patriots. Phil Jackson and the Bulls. Bill Saban and Alabama.

Randy Cuthbert and the Emmaus High School football program could be just that kind of combination.

"I picture a day when everyone is looking up at Emmaus," said Cuthbert last week at a press conference to announce his hiring as the school's 18th head coach. "I'm looking forward to...

Softball falls to Beca in league title game

Wednesday, May 22, 2013 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Emmaus softball team cleared one hurdle, but missed on its second hurdle last week in the Lehigh Valley Conference Playoffs. By beating top-seeded Northampton in extra innings, the Lady Green Hornets advanced to the LVC Championship for the first time in the school's history.

Unfortunately for the Lady Hornets, a 4-0 loss to Bethlehem Catholic in the championship keeps them searching for their first LVC title.

Beca pitcher Joelle Morey kept Emmaus' hitters off balance all...

Errors lead to LVC baseball playoff loss

Wednesday, May 22, 2013 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

A loss to Parkland in the final game of the regular season coupled with a loss to Whitehall in the semifinals of the Lehigh Valley Conference tournament dropped Emmaus to 17-4 overall on the season and into a fifth seed in the District 11 tournament. The worst part of that seeding is that they have to hit the road for their opening game of the tournament, traveling to Stroudsburg for Wednesday's game.

The Mounties lost to Pocono Mountain East in the Mountain Valley Conference...

EHS girls team excels at districts

Wednesday, May 22, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

Track and field is usually seen more as an individual sport. It is viewed as a pastime where athletes are mainly worried about personal records and accolades instead of the betterment of a group.

The Green Hornets' track team doesn't conform to that ideology.

Emmaus embraces the team effort the sport. The Hornets showcased that a few weeks ago at the league meet by winning the ladies' team title and by having outstanding finishes from their relay teams.

At last week's...
