Fausts keep it all in the family at Quinnipiac

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in Sports

David and Annemarie Faust were hoping their triplet daughters track and cross country standouts Amanda, Brianna and Christina would choose to go to the same college.

The 2010 Emmaus high school grads all looked at different schools and chose the one they felt they could be most successful at, settling at Quinnipiac.

"We chose Quinnipiac because of their great physician assistant program," Brianna Faust said. "Our parents really wanted us to go to the same school so it would be...

Mustangs, Lil' Hornets clash in SYFL

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by TIM PATTERSON Special to the Press in Sports

Lower Mac and Emmaus had an epic battle at the 125-pound level with the Mustangs coming out on top, 16-6, to win the division title and secure a one seed for the playoffs.

The Mustangs scored early on a 40-yard strike from Stefan Rollins to Drew Dunbar. Chris Smith hit the extra point to give the Mustangs an early 8-0 lead. The Mustangs moved the ball several times deep into Emmaus territory with blocking by Dennis Csensits, Zach Higgins, Josh Gross, Dimitri Anagnostou and Dalton...

Patterson makes regionals

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by MIKE HAINES in HS Sports

Last year Kelsey Patterson competed in the District 11 Golf Tournament against a strong field of upperclassmen and talented young players.

With many new faces in this year's tournament, the Emmaus junior played as well as almost all of them. She shot 135 over 27 holes Monday at Shawnee Golf Course to earn this year's District 11 Class AAA silver medal, finishing nine shots behind this year's champ, Helen Hsu of Freedom.

Patterson, who missed part of the season with an ankle...

Kerson, Miller spark Hornets

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Northampton football team possesses one of the most prolific passing attacks in the Lehigh Valley this season.

But it was another quarterback who shined the brightest during last Friday's matchup between Emmaus and Northampton.

Hornet senior quarterback Andrew Kerson threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns to lead Emmaus. And combined with the big playmaking ability of sophomore running back Wyl Miller (134 rushing yards and two touchdowns), the Hornets defeated the...

Field hockey eyes playoffs

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

With just three games remaining in the regular season, it would be easy for the Emmaus field hockey team to start peeking ahead to the Lehigh Valley Conference semifinals, which will be played on October 15. Instead, they're staying focused on the games between now and then and using them as reminders to not take any team too lightly.

Conference play ends with a game at home against Central Catholic Wednesday night, then nonconference games at Upper Perkiomen and home against North...

Boys soccer clinches West

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

After beating Freedom 1-0 last week, Emmaus boys soccer coach John Cari mentioned his team's upcoming game with Allen as somewhat of a yardstick to tell how much better his team had become. Early in the season, Allen downed Emmaus 2-1 in a game where many of Cari's seniors sat for much of the game as a disciplinary action for violating team rules.

This time around, Emmaus downed Allen 3-0 in a game that saw four Emmaus players draw yellow cards and one senior A.J. Bishop get ejected...

Wallitsch sets new mark for Hornets

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Two years ago when Lisa Wallitsch recorded her 1000th assist, she had high hopes for a bright future and knew 2000 was a definite possibility. But what she didn't think was possible, albeit a lot of hard work, was reaching the third plateau of her high school career.

During a September 27 game against Easton, Wallitsch surpassed the 3000 career assist mark. It is an unbelievable feat, and Wallitsch will go down as Emmaus' all-time assist leader, with more games to add to the total....

Liberty up next

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Emmaus football team endured a grueling one-point loss at Easton two weeks ago and were looking to get back on a winning streak, and to end a two-game slide.

The Green Hornets sent a message with a 35-14 win at home against Northampton last week, a win they can now build upon with four games left in the regular season.

"It was important for us to get a win because we had two tough losses," said head coach Joe Bottiglieri. "After three good games the first three, we lost two...

Girls heating up at right time

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

All things considered, it was an easy week for the Emmaus girls soccer team. The girls took out Northampton 2-0 and then pounded Allen 9-0 for two victories over the past week, putting the team at 8-5-2 overall and 7-4-1 in the Lehigh Valley Conference.

Kelsey Bacon continued her scoring prowess with two goals in the win over Allen. Against the Canaries, coach Rob Rooney was able to rest some of his regulars a little more than usual, giving opportunities to younger players. Besides...

Boys soccer team clicking at the right time

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

After playing 80 minutes of soccer and neither team scoring, it took Emmaus' A.J. Bishop just 34-seconds to give the Hornets a 1-0 win over Freedom on Monday. The scenario that led to the goal was the same that Emmaus has used several times this season. Ben Roda led Bishop toward the goal with a precision pass and Bishop was able to beat the goalkeeper.

The goal was Bishop's 13th of the season, by far, the most on the team.

"They've played together a lot since they were kids....
