LMMS Theatre presents ‘The Not So Grand Hotel’

Lower Macungie Middle School Theatre will present the comedy ‘The Not So Grand Hotel’ 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15, 16 and 17 in the LMMS auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The play, written by Eddie Cope and Carl L. Williams, will be performed by a cast and crew of 52 students. Director Patrick Campbell describes this farce as a “light, fun, family friendly play with endearing characters.”

This is the 20th year LMMS Theatre, directed by Campbell, is delighting and entertaining audiences with acting talent, music and comedy.

Annual Veterans Day program honors military personnel

Lower Macungie Middle School held its annual Veterans Day program Nov. 9. Students and faculty wore red to honor deployed military personnel. The band and Cadence Choir performed and several students spoke.

East Penn School District Superintendent Kristen Campbell provided comments as well as the assistant principals.

Chief Petty Officer Douglas McPeek was the guest veteran speaker.

Innovator/STEAM grants awarded

The East Penn School District Education Foundation recently awarded 14 grants to educators in East Penn School District schools.

Many East Penn educators submitted detailed grant proposals outlining STEAM ideas for their classrooms. Grant proposals were evaluated in areas of innovation, impact, sustainability, and overall alignment with the foundation’s STEAM focus.

Fourteen grants totaling $14,500 will be funded.

Powerful storm causes damage

UPDATE: Emmaus High School will be closed Nov. 8 and 9. The restoration process will continue throughout the weekend. Please note the following cancellations: World Languages Honor Society Induction Ceremony scheduled for Nov. 8 has been canceled. Students will receive their certificates in class upon return. Broadway Night scheduled for Nov. 9 has been canceled. Picture retake day has been rescheduled for Nov. 19 and Saturday’s Kid Science Camp has been rescheduled for Dec. 1. Pending acceptable air quality results, the district anticipates classes will resume Nov. 12.

Students and staff support breast cancer awareness

Lower Macungie Middle School recently held its ninth annual Pink Out. Early in the school day, students gathered outside for an aerial photo in the shape of a flask, reflecting the theme Elements of a Cure.

The culmination of the Pink Out is the after school activity. Students dressed in everything pink – shirts, cowboy hats, bandanas, beads, shoelaces and more and enjoyed games, food, a DJ and a pink raffle. There was also a “Ballin’ for Breast Cancer” basketball tournament.

Kevin Ge named National Merit Scholarship

Kevin Ge, of Lower Macungie Township, is among students named a 2019 National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist.

Ge is in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

He is president of the academic team and vice president of the Pennsylvania Math League at EHS.

A varsity tennis player, Ge also coaches tennis, studies piano and teaches Chinese martial arts.

Ge plans to study mechanical engineering.

He is member of National Honor Society and French Honor Society and is a committee officer for Envirothon at EHS.
