To the Editor:

We just returned from a trip off the mainland and hadn't seen any news the past two weeks, so when Sam, my husband, turned on the TV early this morning we were really shocked and heartsick to hear of the Connecticut child slaying.

It is beyond being able to describe the anguish and sadness to the families and also others who hurt for them, and can't do anything to alleviate this grief for them.

Macungie Holiday gets residents in the spirit

Macungie residents got into the holiday spirit Dec. 8 as they celebrated Macungie Holiday.

The day's activities included a free holiday trolley to all locations, horse and wagon rides in Macungie Park, a gingerbread display at Kalmbach Park, farmers market vendors and a special train display at Macungie Institute, holiday crafts show and cookie sale at Macungie Park, breakfast with Santa at Grace Lutheran Church, chili and chicken corn soup and kid's crafts at Solomon's United Church...

Couple plans

May 2014 nuptials

Mr. and Mrs. Jay Sommer of Schnecksville announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily C., to Paul D. Zellers, the son of the late Kimberly Reis and the grandson of Jackie Reis of Allentown.

Paul surprised everyone by asking for Emily's hand in marriage during Thanksgiving dinner in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Bakeer Jones, 33, of Lebanon, was arrested for DUI and drug possession with intent to deliver on Interstate 78 westbound at exit 55, Salisbury Township, 1:29 a.m. Nov. 29. Jones was stopped for a suspended Pennsylvania registration violation and was allegedly found to be under the influence of marijuana and in possession of a large amount of the controlled substance.
