SteelStacks host 3 Kings Jan. 6

El Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings Day), a cherished religious and cultural tradition in many Latin American countries, will be celebrated during the first Three Kings Celebration at SteelStacks 3 to 7 p.m. Jan. 6. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.

SAT review course Jan. 12

Penn State Lehigh Valley will offer an SAT review course that can help prepare test takers for the SAT exam Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 12 through March 2, 2013 at the Center Valley campus, 2809 Saucon Valley Road, Center Valley.

The course offers strategies for the verbal, critical reading and writing, and math portions of the exam.

Participants can develop effective critical reading and writing strategies, review essential mathematical skills and concepts, discover proven test-taking techniques, and gain instructional help and feedback with the concepts covered.

Free trees for joining

Residents of Pennsylvania can ring in the new year with 10 free flowering trees by joining the Arbor Day Foundation any time during January 2013. By becoming a part of the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation, new members will receive two white flowering dogwoods, two flowering crabapples, two Washington hawthorns, two American redbuds and two golden rain trees.

National Blood Donor Month

Since 1970, National Blood Donor Month has been celebrated in January in an effort to educate Americans about the importance of regular blood and platelet donations and the impact they can have on patients in need.

This January, the American Red Cross is thanking the millions of dedicated blood and platelet donors across the United States who roll up their sleeves and donate regularly. Because of their dedication, blood is available for patients whenever or wherever it is needed.

Lehigh County awarded funding for pollution prevention project

Twenty-six county conservation districts received funding to promote water pollution strategies across Pennsylvania.

Lehigh County Conservation District received $1,300 to conduct water quality educational seminars.

"As a member of the Conservation District, it is imperative that we work to maintain our waterways," watershed specialist and agricultural resource conservationist Laura Richenderfer said. "We want to remind the community that we are all stewards in protecting our natural resources, and together we can preserve these commodities for years to come."

Via Offers Program for Teen's with Disabilities

Via is again offering Via Teen Winter Experience for teens and young adults with disabilities this December. Via Teen Winter Experience offers exciting and valuable experiences for participants between Christmas and New Year's when schools are typically closed.

Via Teen Winter Experience is Dec. 26, 27, 28 and 31, and is for teens and young adults from age 13 to 21. This program helps young adults with disabilities connect to their community through recreational, social, volunteer and educational activities to help prepare for adult life.
