AAA East Central, East Penn Region, is holding a free workshop, "Dare to Prepare," for parents and their pre-permit teens 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 11 at AAA East Central, East Penn Region, 2072 Downyflake Lane, Allentown.
Since crashes are the leading cause of death for teen drivers, AAA developed a program to help reduce teen crashes and also to help families prepare for the "learning-to-drive" process.
The Spring 2013 curbside branch collection program is scheduled to take place April 15 through 19. Residents should place the branches at the curb after 6 p.m. Sunday. Branches may be no longer than 5 feet long and 5 inches in diameter. Branches should be bundled and tied with twine. Open containers (no lids) can be used for small branches.
Lehigh Carbon Community College, 4500 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville, is offering "Running for Life" for youngsters ages 8-12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. April 10 through May 29 at LCCC's main campus.
Students will learn good nutrition and track their exercise and healthy snacking in a journal.
Kids are asked to wear comfortable clothes, sneakers, and to bring a water bottle.
There is a materials fee for the journal, along with a course fee.

Allentown High School Class of 1943 will be having its 70th reunion May 23 at Brookside Country Club, Macungie.
Socializing will be noon to 1:15 p.m. when a meal of giant shrimp cocktail, choice of chicken or roast beef and peach melba dessert will be served.
Entertainment will be by a classmate dubbed "King of the Banjo" at the 1760 House, Trexlertown, and the former Village Inn.

On April 19, Lower Macungie Middle School will host their second annual mini-thon to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund for pediatric cancer.
The mission of The Four Diamonds Fund is to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research.
Any family with a child being treated for pediatric cancer at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital is automatically eligible for support.
Approximately 100 new families receive support each year.
Local author Bryan Svencer will visit the Emmaus Public Library to talk about his new book, EDUTAINMENT 1:30 p.m. April 6. It includes 17 dynamic teaching strategies and incentives for the 21st century.
"This is not your mother's classroom anymore," Svencer said.
Svencer teaches fourth grade at Lincoln School in Emmaus and has been incorporating this philosophy in his classroom for years. After his talk he will autograph copies of the book, for sale at the library at that time.
The Emmaus Historical Society museum needs additional time for renovations and is now scheduled to reopen April 13. The Allentown Music Club is offering a $1,000 Past President's Assembly scholarship to a high school senior who resides in Lehigh or Northampton counties.
The student must be accepted at an accredited institution and be pursuing music performance. Application deadline is April 10.
