Virtual meeting May 13

Envision Lehigh Valley will host a one-of-a-kind virtual public meeting 8 to 9 p.m. May 13 to garner feedback from residents of the Lehigh Valley about what they want to see in the Lehigh Valley in the next five, 10 or 20 years. The unique virtual meeting will allow anyone to jump into the broadcast through a specific link and chat live with a panel of city planners from Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown as well as a regional planner from the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

Camp Cadet seeking applicants

State Police Troop M Bethlehem will conduct its 29th Camp Cadet June 16-21 at Camp Fowler, Orefield.

This year 90 cadets will be selected to experience what it takes to become a law enforcement officer.

To be eligible for Camp Cadet, a boy or girl must be at least 12 years old but not older than 14 by May 1; be a resident of either Lehigh or Northampton counties; and must be in good physical condition.

Stamp Out Hunger May 11

Local members of the National Association of Letter Carriers will Stamp Out Hunger May 11, by collecting non-perishable food donations from their regular postal routes and delivering them to Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania for distribution to agencies serving area families in need in six counties. Letter carriers will be aided by volunteers from Teamsters Local #773, the Rutgers Alumni Club of the Lehigh Valley and the Northampton County Probation Department for this one day food drive event.

Glieder Fescht scheduled for May 13

Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center, Luckenbill Road, next to Kutztown University is hosting its annual Glieder Fescht May 13. The community is welcome to attend.

Dr. William Woys Weaver, food historian and author of "As American as Shoofly Pie: The Foodlore and Fakelore of Pennsylvania Dutch Cuisine," will serve as the keynote speaker for the evening.

A book signing will follow the program. A delicious meal from salad to dessert will be served.

Group to meet

The Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pennsylvania will be hosting lawyer, educator, lecturer Malcolm Gross May 7 at Day's Inn, 3400 Airport Road, Allentown.

He will be discussing "The Trial of John Brown."

Dinner will be 6:30 p.m. Program at 7:30 p.m.

Reservations are required for the dinner and must be made by May 2.

There is a fee for both the dinner and program.

Open auditons on May 4

Young Musicians of the Allentown Music Club will meet 2 p.m. May 4 at Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall.

They will be performing a free concert as well as holding open auditions for the club.

New members are welcome.

The music club is open to all children ages 5-18, who desire opportunities to showcase their talents on musical instruments or with voice.

The Young Musicians promote music performance, education and enjoyment.

Contestants sought for queen

The Allentown Fair is seeking contestants for the 2013 Fair Queen Contest in August.

Contestants should be between the ages of 16 and 20 and must reside in Lehigh, Berks or Northampton counties.

The Fair Queen will receive a $1,000 scholarship. She will participate in the Pennsylvania State Fair Queen Contest, where she will have the opportunity to win a $2,000 scholarship.
