Writers encourage future authors

Members of the greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group met at the Lower Macungie Library Feb. 27 for a workshop on writing and publishing tips.

The forum was led by David Miller II, of Macungie, author of "Time Birds" and "A Gift of Love" on the Lutheran Home of Topton.

Francis J. Waller, Ph.D. of Lower Macungie, attended with questions on publishing. He has written various books on chemistry.

Pat Waller, of Lower Macungie, a writer of articles for the National Association of Biology Teachers, also attended.

School board president supports educational funding increase at state policy hearing

East Penn Board of School Directors President Charles Ballard called for the state to increase funding for public education at the House Democratic Policy Committee hearing 2 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in Bethlehem City Hall's Town Hall, 10 East Church St., Bethlehem.

Ballard, an assistant regional director for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, said adequate basic and special education funding must be a priority in the 2013-2014 state budget. In his 20 minute testimony to the committee, Ballard also stressed the reduction or elimination of unfunded mandates.

DeSales television and film students learn tools of the trade

DeSales University television and film majors use a 34-foot jib, or a remote controlled camera crane, to capture a shot for a student film entitled "You're An Angel." Harry Scheid and Roger Tomes, of Coast to Coast Jibs, operate the crane for a shot for a student film at DeSales.
