Families of the tiniest babies at Lehigh Valley Hospital are now able to view them in real time on their computer or smart phone through a webcam system developed by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The new system was unveiled at a news conference Feb 5 at the hospital's Cedar Crest campus.
Jacelia Cruz and Samuel Colon, of Bethlehem, whose baby, Janiya, was born two months prematurely in mid-January, marvel at the technology.
"Without being able to see my baby at any time I want to, I think I'd have to live here to be close to her," Cruz said.
The Upper Milford Township supervisors announced at their Feb. 7 meeting they will hold a special meeting 7 p.m. March 12 to update the township's emergency management plan.

The Emmaus Gamewell system, installed in 1953, has come under fire by Emmaus Borough Council at recent meetings.
The Gamewell system is a series of fire notification boxes installed over 38,500 feet of copper wire running on 259 telephone poles to alarm boxes and businesses throughout the borough.
The system uses telegraph wire to create a printout of numbers corresponding to a specific alert box or location. When a box is triggered, a spring-loaded wheel taps out a signal four times to provide the precise location of the alarm.

As Cedar Crest College's William D. Reimert lecture speaker for 2013, documentary filmmaker and philanthropist, Abigail Disney, will be speaking on "Why Women Matter" 7 p.m. March 14 in Samuels Theatre.
Disney, the daughter of Roy E. Disney, will also be receiving an honorary degree from Cedar Crest College before hosting the lecture. Disney spoke to the Lehigh Valley Press preceding the event about topics she will be discussing.
