At the 18th annual Pocono EMS Conference recently, Paramedic Jeffrey Knopf described the call he and partner Tim Sullivan received at 7:14 a.m. Jan. 26, 2009.
"I heard a police officer calling for help for a child that was unconscious," said Knopf, an Emmaus resident who had been working for Northampton Regional EMS at the time. Two minutes later they were dispatched to the Northampton Area Middle School.
Macungie Borough Council adopted its preliminary budget Dec. 3 and with it a proposed new tax ordinance and an increase in the police department's budget allowing for a new 32-hour officer.
Alburtis Borough Council appointed Sherryann Oels and David Lehr as councilpersons Nov. 29 to fill vacancies created when Kyle Bower and Kathleen Palmer, now mayor, resigned their positions.
Council adopted Resolutions No. 2012-6 approving Oels' appointment to replace Bower and No. 2012-7 approving Lehr's appointment to replace Palmer.
Palmer administered the Oaths of Office and Oels and Lehr immediately assumed their places on council.
Recent rumor of PPL's replacing local residential electric meters by government edict are both completely false and somewhat true.
PPL Spokesman Joe Nixon said in a telephone interview replacement of old meters in favor of new, advanced meters has been ongoing since 2002. About 160,000 old dial meters have been replaced with digital meters, he said, and no longer require nearby radio monitoring because they send information directly back through the electrical system.

The Central Catholic boys football team defeated Selinsgrove High School Nov. 30 by a margin of 41-13, in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs.
Led by senior captains Anthony Beck, Andrew Englebert, Colin McDermott and Anthony Lynch, the team hopes to continue their success in the upcoming semifinal game against Archbishop Wood High School. The game will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at Bethlehem School District's stadium.
Allentown AARP Chapter #5415 will meet noon at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 140 South Ott Street, Allentown. They will hold their annual membership recognition luncheon and the program will be led by Singer Claude Shappell. A business meeting will follow the program. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable item for the food bank.
