Thirty-two students competed on eight different teams at Bloomsburg University’s annual computer competition April 11. The first place team was Ian Bowler, Bradley Klemick, Jie Luo and Nathan Walls who were the only ones to complete all 10 problems out of a total of 50 teams from eastern Pennsylvania. Emmaus teams also took fourth, sixth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 13th and 14th place. All of the other seven teams completed more than half of the programs. Congratulations to all who participated.

The annual National Honor Society Coffeehouse fundraiser took place April 5. Students had the chance to perform musical and other talent based acts for the crowd, either individually or in a group. The award for best individual act went to Yuehao Liu for his piano performance of “Fantasia Impromptu” and best duo or group went to Abby Garza and Claudia Rosado for their vocal/piano performance of “She Used to be Mine” from the musical “Waitress.”

The Kiwanis Club of Emmaus will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt 1 p.m. (rain or shine) April 15 at Emmaus Community Park, 13th and Broad streets. The hunt includes five age groups (toddlers through age 10). There are prizes for numbered eggs. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to add to the festivities. Plaudits to the club members for offering this popular community event for 65 years.

The junior prom committee will meet Jan. 30 after school in Room 569. If you would like to help plan the prom theme, decorations and songs, plan to attend.

Instead of a regular monthly meeting, the Upper Milford Historical Society will hold its summer picnic at Jasper Park 6 p.m. July 28. Everyone is invited to bring items, pictures or stories of historical interest to share, as was done at an earlier meeting this year; this has proved to be a popular activity for members. In case of rain, the picnic meeting will be held in the township building.

Boxelder bugs (Boisea trivittas) are considered a fall nuisance to those of us who have boxelder trees (Acer negundo) near our homes. As the temperatures start to drop, these insects decide that a good overwintering site is in our homes.
