Due to a mandate from the Diocese of Allentown, Allentown Central Catholic High School students were dismissed 11:30 a.m. March 12. ACCHS was also closed March 13 and is now remaining closed until April 6. Central did not have a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. This dismissal was a precautionary decision made for the Diocesan schools in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
Without a doubt, the current COVID-19 pandemic has taken precedence in many aspects of our daily lives.
Central’s boys basketball team won the district championship against Bethlehem Catholic High School Feb. 28. This is the Vikings second District 11 title in three years. Nick Filchner led with seven points, Liam Joyce with six points and Jaylen Green with five points and two assists all in the fourth quarter. Viking Basketball defeated South Philadelphia 47- 26 in the first round of the state tournament.
The Vikings fell to Pope John Paul II in an exciting matchup March 10 at Governor Mifflin High School in Berks County. The Vikings lost by two points.
Congratulations to the Allentown Central Catholic High School Science Olympiad Team who earned the first place trophy at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition Feb. 21, which was held at Northampton Community College. Central received a medal for every event except for one. Amazing job, Vikings!
Congratulations to Nick Filchner who broke the Allentown Central Catholic High School basketball record for 3-pointers with a total of 174 (and counting). Nick had tied the record of 169 previously set by Zay Jennings, Class of 2016, when the Vikes defeated Parkland Jan. 24. Nick racked up five more three’s against Quakertown. Currently, Nick is only 39 points away from 1,000. Way to go Nick!

The Allentown Central Catholic High School girls basketball played against Pocono Mountain West High School Jan. 10.
The Vikettes won 33-30 and marked their 1,000th win with Coach Mike Kopp.
Coach Kopp has had a distinguished career of service and accomplishment as an ACCHS teacher, athletic director from 2002-2015 and basketball coach. Among his many accomplishments is being named the National High School Coaches Association National Girls Basketball Coach of The Year in 2014 and holding the state record for most victories. Congratulations, Coach Kopp!

Congratulations to Nick Filchner who was named Coordinated Health’s Male Athlete of the Week. Nick is a senior and is a member of the Allentown Central Catholic High School varsity boys basketball team.
The ACCHS/LVHN Christmas Tournament was held Dec. 27 and 28, 2019 in Rockne Hall. ACCHS defeated both Roberto Clemente and Springside Chestnut Hill to win the championship Dec. 28, 2019.
Midterm exams are scheduled for Jan. 14-17. Dismissal will be 11:.30 a.m. each day.
The third quarter will begin Jan. 20.

Our Scholastic Scrimmage team received an early Christmas gift with a semifinal victory over Moravian Academy Dec. 16. The team will advance to the championship match in January 2020 against Northwestern Lehigh High School.
Congratulations to our Vikettes who earned All-State Girls Volleyball honors. Selections announced by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association PVCA Class 3A are Sydney Giamalis, Monica Vargo and Maggie McGuire.
Viking basketball’s 90th season opened Dec. 7 against Danville at home in Rockne Hall. Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play began Dec. 10 at Nazareth. The Vikings then host rivals Parkland and Whitehall the same week.
Seven of Allentown Central Catholic High School’s choir members participated in the 100th 6ABC/Dunkin’ Philly Thanksgiving Parade. They performed as part of the youth choir and sang on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum. Congratulations to Emily Ahern, Jah’Kai Douglas, Robert Garza, Tess Horn, Riley Loz, Elena Wenrich-Quinones and Natalie Woytec.
The Allentown Central Catholic High School Drama Club will present the comedy “Fairy Tale Misfits” 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7 and 2 p.m. Dec. 7. The show is student directed, produced, designed and performed.
National Honor Society sponsored a canned food drive. Students received a dress down day for food they donated.
On Nov. 22 the Red Cross Club sponsored a blood drive and The Pro-Life Club sponsored a diaper drive, which benefited the Cay Galgon Life House (Mary’s Shelter.)
Allentown Central Catholic High School has announced the 17th annual Viking Fest 2020 will return to Rockne Hall May 2, 2020. Viking Fest is the most important fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this event provide valuable funding for major campus renovations, enhancements to technology and curriculum and upgrades to security.
Vikette soccer’s season ended when they fell to Northwestern 2-0. Congratulations on a great season.
