Lehigh County awarded funding for pollution prevention project

Twenty-six county conservation districts received funding to promote water pollution strategies across Pennsylvania.

Lehigh County Conservation District received $1,300 to conduct water quality educational seminars.

"As a member of the Conservation District, it is imperative that we work to maintain our waterways," watershed specialist and agricultural resource conservationist Laura Richenderfer said. "We want to remind the community that we are all stewards in protecting our natural resources, and together we can preserve these commodities for years to come."

formerly of Macungie

Elda L. Benner, 86, formerly of Richlandtown, Quakertown, and Macungie, died December 11, 2012, at Cedarbrook, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Carroll F. Benner, who died in 1999. Born in Sellersville, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Marion Nuss.

She was employed by the superintendent's office of Quakertown Community School District for over 25 years and formerly worked as a secretary at PPL in the 1940s.

She was a member of Faith UCC in Center Valley, and a volunteer at the Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Center.

of Emmaus

Thomas S. Schmoyer, 81, of Emmaus, died December 14, 2012, in Mosser Nursing Home. He was the husband of Viola B. (Hilbert) Schmoyer. Born in Emmaus, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Schaeffer) Schmoyer.

He was a mechanic for various auto dealers until retiring.

He served in the Seabees during the Korean War and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1067 of Emmaus.

He was a volunteer firefighter and life member of Emmaus Fire Co. #1 and also a member of Citizens Fire Co. #2 in Emmaus.

Auditions set

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is holding auditions for its 33rd annual season, Aug. 3 and continuing Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day through Oct. 27.

Auditions for the Blackfryars, a volunteer acting group, are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Jan. 12, 13. Those auditioning should prepare a one to two-minute comedic or dramatic monologue and sing a 30-second song.

Auditions the Bacchanalians, the professional acting company, are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Jan. 26, 27. Those auditioning should prepare two one-minute monologues (one comedic and one dramatic) and sing a 30-second song.
