LV harmonizers

Contest announced

As part of the Barbershop Harmony Society's "Youth in Harmony" program, the Lehigh Valley Harmonizers is hosting its fourth annual Young Singers Quartet Contest. The goal is to give students the unique experience of singing in a barbershop quartet and to offer an opportunity to improve their singing skills through the medium of close harmony a cappella singing. To date, 10 quartets are entered from Freedom, Northern Lehigh and Phillipsburg High Schools. Deadline for entries is Jan. 24.

Joseph Nicholas Marks, 77, of Emmaus, died January 18, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Betty B. (Bayer) Marks. They were married for 53 years. Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Camillo and Ethel (Karmann) Marks.

He worked in construction for many years, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the Macungie Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Richard Kindig

Richard Kindig, 58, of Lower Macungie Township, died January 19, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospial, Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Jane L. (Gibson) Kindig, who died March 2, 1998.

He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy.

He was a senior buyer and planner for SHI Cryogenics, Allentown until his illness.

He is survived by his children, Jolene, Caitlin and Ian.

A calling hour will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown, followed by the service at 11 a.m.

Jeremiah Roeder, 71, of Zionsville, died unexpectedly at home on January 6, 2013. He was the beloved spouse of Pamela (Yoachim) Roeder. Born in Hosensack, he was the son of the late David and Anna (Holben) Roeder.

He drove a truck for West Motor Freight, Boyertown, Jones Motor of Spring City and the former Graystone Express in Reading.

He was a former member of the Reading Motorcycle Club in Oley.

John Hartman "Jack" Dittbrenner Jr., 82, of Salisbury Township, died January 10, 2013, in Woodland Terrace at the Oaks, after a 22-year courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the husband of Annabelle Helen (Pforr) Dittbrenner. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary January 19. Born in Fullerton, Lehigh County, he was a son of the late John Hartman and Emilie (Seider) Dittbrenner Sr.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

Roslyn Glass, 85, of Allentown, died January 10, 2013, in her home. She was the wife of the late Gerald Glass, who died in 2001.

She was employed at Career Link of the Lehigh Valley for 27 years.

She is survived by sons, Allen and his wife Nancy and Scott and his significant other Kim; grandchildren, Matthew, Marc, Brooke and Krista; great-grandchildren, Miah, Tierney, Gavin, Hunter, Payton and Laekyn. She was predeceased by a son, Barry.

Margaret Ann Leach

Margaret Ann Leach, 90, of Wescosville, formerly of Munch, Lycoming County, and Reading, died January 9, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Frank P. Leach, who died in 1996. Born in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Dougherty) Dowds.

She worked many years as a sales clerk at Bon-Ton and Hess's department stores in Munch and other department stores in Reading.

She loved swing dancing, caring for animals and reading.

She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Bally.
