This past Sunday, we paid tribute to nearly 22 million veterans in the United States. Recognizing those who donned the uniform of one of our military branches, we think of the veterans from the Greatest Generation who served with tremendous courage during World War II; the young Soldiers and Marines sent to Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s; and the men and women who have served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan in the fight against global terror.

former Air Products Chairman & CEO

Dexter F. Baker, 85, former Chairman and CEO of Air Products and Chemicals died November 1, 2012, in Houston, Texas, after an illness. He was the husband of Dorothy Baker. They were married for 61 years.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, a Master of Business Administration and Honorary Doctor of Engineering degrees from Lehigh University. In 1952 he joined Air Products and Chemicals in its formative years. He moved to London with his young family and built their international division.

Poet-photographer Marilyn Hazelton presents "Sustaining The Soul," 9 a.m. - noon Nov. 17, FloreAnt Projects Gallery- Studio, 215 Main St., Emmaus.

A selection of Hazelton's original photographic work combining tanka poetry, a Japanese five-phrase poetic form, and images is on display at the gallery Nov. 17- Dec. 15.

Photographers, painters, writers and students are invited to participate. A goal of the workshop is to deepen participants' insights into their own art and that of other artists and to discover new visual and textual meaning.

Ben Franklin TechVentures to hold annual 'Venture Idol'

"Ben Franklin Venture Idol" will be held Nov. 15, Ben Franklin TechVentures, 116 Research Drive, Bethlehem.

Networking begins at 5:30 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m.

During the event, three early-stage technology company entrepreneurs seeking funding will present short pitches to a panel of investors and the audience.

After brief critiques from an expert panel, the audience will vote for a winning Ben Franklin Venture Idol. The event will include presentations, networking and investment pitches.

Realtor rejoins Coldwell Banker

Coldwell Banker Heritage Real Estate has announced the appointment of Patricia "Tricia" Reed as Vice-President of Business Development and Allentown Marketing Director.

After seven years with Coldwell Banker Heritage, she moved to Hilton Head, S.C., because of her husband's employment.

In 1999, Reed relocated to New Haven, Conn., where she was appointed Manager of Corporate Services and Relocation Director of the Beazley Company.

Book signing set for Moravian putz book

Central Moravian Church is publishing a new book, "The Moravian Christmas Putz: Bethlehem Moravians Tell the Story of the Birth of Christ," this month, marking the 75 years since Bethlehem became known as Christmas City USA.

That same year, Central Moravian Church opened its doors to its Community Putz for the first time Dec. 24, 1937.

The 72-page volume, with 90 color pictures, tells the history and Moravian traditions surrounding the putz.
