Holy Spirit Christian Nursery School celebrated the Chinese New Year Jan. 23 and 24 with children wearing pajamas, reading stories and eating pancakes. The students made
dragon masks and held a dragon parade at the end of the school day.
Mildred S. Sousa, 77, of Emmaus, died January 28, 2013, in her home. Born in Edwardsville, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Anna (Perhac) Koval.
She worked as an executive assistant for Bethlehem Steel and Merck for many years, retiring in 1997.
She was an active member of the Church of Assumption BVM, where she was a member of numerous parish ministries.
She was a devoted grandmother, avid gardener, skilled seamstress, and sang with the Sweet Adelines.
A 16-year-old female was arrested for simple assault after police were called to a residence in the 600 block of Walnut Street, Emmaus, Jan. 28. The juvenile was charged with assaulting her mother during an alleged domestic disturbance at the residence. The charge will be handled in juvenile court.
An unknown actor stole various items from an apartment in the 100 block of Main Street, Emmaus, Jan. 24. The actor stole an iPod, an iPod docking station, an Xbox 360 and numerous games valued at $450.

The SnowBlast Winter Festival was held in Emmaus Feb. 1 and 2.
Barbara Jean Jarrett, 58, of Macungie, died February 1, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. She was the wife of Dennis A. Jarrett. They were married for 18 years. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Huber) Frederick.
She was an executive secretary for both Mesko Spotting Service and Shuttlex Transportation.
She is survived by William Frederick and his wife Sandy, of Kunkletown, Alan Frederick and his companion, Jill Weiss, of Emmaus.

The Snowblast Winter Festival held in Emmaus Feb. 1 and 2, sponsored by the Emmaus Arts Commission was packed with free, community-wide art related events. Activities included many favorites such as an appearance by the SnowBlast Ice Princess, sculpted ice demonstrations, musical performances and art projects at the library. See additional photos on A7.
