The kick-off event for The Emmaus Arts Commission's 8th Annual Student Horror Film Festival, Oct. 27, Emmaus Theater, is 6 p.m. Oct. 10, Emmaus High School.
The Student Horror Film Festival showcases student horror films from schools throughout the Lehigh Valley. Winners take home cash and prizes, trophies and certificates of participation.
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem presents "Fisk Family Fugues," a Gala Concert and Fundraiser featuring Eliot Fisk, guitar virtuoso, and his family, 8 p.m. Oct. 12, Baker Hall, Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University, Bethlehem.
"Fisk Family Fugues" is conceived especially for The Bach Choir Gala by Fisk, a world-renowned guitar virtuoso and a favorite of Bach Festival audiences.
Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) and Westfield Hospital have announced an agreement that will allow LVHN to acquire the assets of Westfield.
LVHN plans to transform Westfield into the Center for Orthopedic Medicine. LVHN will operate and staff the new orthopedic center at Westfield's site, 4815-4825 W. Tilghman St., South Whitehall Township.
Ronald Swinfard, LVHN president and CEO, said the care at the center will run the gamut of orthopedic care with the focus on total joint replacement and spine surgery.

Many elementary students learn how and why popcorn pops, and the fifth grade students at The Swain School also learn how to grow their own popcorn. Donald L. Biever, 83, of Macungie, died Sept. 22, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Kathryn A. (Schaffer) Biever. They were married 49 years. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Russell and Florence (Erie) Biever.
He served honorably in the United States Army.
He was employed by Aldrich Pump Company as a draftsman and later worked at Mack Trucks.
He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and constructing buildings for model railroads.
