Marie T. Bauer, 83, of Emmaus, died September 16, 2012. She was the wife of the late Rowland Bauer with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Hugo and Teresa (Kukitz) Schultz.
She ws a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Emmaus and was the head cook at Harrison-Morton Middle school for 25 years.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9264 announced the Ladies Auxiliary "Patriot's Pen Essay Competition." Middle school students in grades six through eight have the opportunity to compete.
Students are invited to write a 300 to 400 word essay on a patriotic theme. The theme for this is "What I Would Tell America's Founding Fathers."

Lehigh County is holding free "anything with a plug" recycling 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sept. 22, Lehigh Carbon Community College, 4525 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville; Olympus Corporate Headquarters, 3500 Corporate Parkway, Center Valley; and Lowe's Home Im-provement, 1235 Martin Court, Bethlehem.
Items accepted include computers, monitors, printers, air-conditioners, computer accessories and household appliances.
The Friends of the 1803 House are looking for apple pie bakers to be part of the "A Very Merrie Halloween" event scheduled for Oct. 6.

Robert Q.C. Bechtel Sr., 83, of Whitehall, formerly of Emmaus, died peacefully September 9, 2012 in Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, with his loving and dedicated family by his side. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Keller) Bechtel for over 59 years. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna (Koch) Bechtel.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Coplay.
He was a 1947 graduate of Allentown High School and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

James P. Ewell, 87, of Macungie, formerly of Allentown and Philadelphia, died September 15, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Bradley) Ewell. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James P. and Ellen (Anderson) Ewell.
He was a graduate of Northeast High School in Philadelphia and LaSalle University, and was a district sales manager for Uniroyal Corporation for many years until retiring.

Mr. Dennis Nemes was welcomed as the new Central Catholic High School principal.
Mr. Nemes takes over as principal of CCHS after spending a total of 30 years as the principal of Northwestern Lehigh High School. He comes to Central with a great amount of enthusiasm and excitement for this upcoming school year.
