Ben Franklin Tech to invest $354,876 in area development

The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania BFTP-NEP) Board of Directors has approved the investment of $354,876 in support of regional economic development.

Ben Franklin announces the following early-stage company investments from its Pennsylvania Challenge Grant funding. Ben Franklin investments are provided to early-stage clients in the form of loans.

'Cupcake Bowl' set to take the cake

Bakeries from throughout the region are coming together for a sweet, new event, "The Cupcake Bowl," 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Dec. 29, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.

The benefit raises funds for ArtsQuest's Arts Education Programming Fund, which provides quality arts and educational programs and experiences for students from throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Attendees will cast their votes to determine the People's Choice winner, while a judging panel will decide the winners for Best Frosting, Best Cake, Best Decoration and Best Overall Taste.

Ironton phone firm funds LCCC center

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) has announced a $50,000-commitment by Ironton Telephone Company to support the college's Early Learning Center through the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit program. A check for $25,000 was recently presented to LCCC President Donald W. Snyder and Foundation Executive Director Tim Herrlinger. The locally-owned company has committed another $25,000 for the fiscal year 2013 - '14. "We are delighted to be able to help provide access to the learning center for area families in need," said Ironton CEO William George II.

Marion D. Gottier, 88, of Macungie, formerly of Malvern and Narberth, died December 12, 2012, at her home. She was the wife of the late Everett C. Gottier. Born in Philadelphia, she was the only child of the late Peter and Helga (Christensen) Mattison.

She was employed by Girard Bank (Narberth branch) until her retirement.

During her retirement she enjoyed the company of her family and friends, reading and completing crossword puzzles.

Paul K. Gambler

Paul K. Gambler went to eternal rest December 9, 2012 at the University of Penn Medical Center. He was the husband of Carol Gambler. Born on September 10, 1942, he was a son of the late Paul W. Gambler and Catherine (Szillie) Gambler.

He worked for Kline Foundry until they closed and then worked as a greens keeper at Brookside Country Club.

He will be remembered as an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, David and Jeffrey; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Ott-Gambler; brothers, Gerald, Ronald and Donald.
