Veterans among those recognized by the Landis Family Foundation

The Landis Family Foundation and Star Dealerships of the Lehigh Valley served up a morning of golf and camaraderie recently, when hundreds went to Green Pond Country Club for a fundraising announcement luncheon.

The Landis Family Foundation Landis Cup $1,000,000 Charity Shootout was a warm affair between longtime friends and dozens of nonprofit participants from around the Lehigh Valley, including at least a half-dozen that work with veterans.

Health by county study: Valley in top third

Think you need to take better care of yourself? Locally, we’re actually doing better than many Pennsylvanians.

A recent study ranked each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties in matters of health, and Lehigh and Northampton, which contain the state’s third largest metropolitan area — the Lehigh Valley — both finished toward the top third.

Lehigh County ranked 21, while Northampton County ranked 27. Union County and Philadelphia claimed the top and bottom, respectively, in the multi-year study.

Valley responds to Paris attacks

Members of Muslim extremist militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria attacked civilians at three locations in Paris Nov. 13, killing 129 people and wounding hundreds. Most if not all the attackers were themselves killed, though the investigation continues and additional suspects are being rooted out. Words of support for the victims and condemnation for ISIS, which claimed responsibility, have been given worldwide.
