Cast your vote on election day Nov. 8

Nov. 8 is Election Day. Don’t forget to exercise your right and responsibility to vote.

The Macungie curbside leaf collection will take place weekly during the month of November. Residents should rake their leaves to the curb by 7 a.m. Leaves can also be taken to the borough garage on South Church Street.

The Parkland Art League will hold its meeting 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St. Internationally known artist Hong Tatt Foo will be the guest demonstrator for the meeting.

Halloween fun planned at the library Oct. 29

Back by popular demand, local author Charlie Adams will present an evening of spectacular ghost stories 7:13 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Lower Macungie Township Library.

There will be Halloween Fun with “Jack” the Mack Truck 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 outside the library, weather permitting. There will be trunk or treating and photo opportunities. A special Halloween storytime will be held in the library 10:30 a.m.

Library League – a monthly program for students in third to fifth grades meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. The program includes a story, exploration and problem-solving.

Macungie Minstrelaires present ‘Lyrics and Laughter’

The Macungie Minstrelaires will present “Lyrics and Laughter” at Lower Macungie Middle School 8 p.m. Oct. 21, 22 and Oct. 28 and 29. Matinees are 2 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29. The Parkland Art League will meet at its new location 7 p.m. at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St, Macungie. Anyone with an interest in art is invited to attend a demonstration in oil by Bethlehem artist Sandra Corpora. Refreshments will be served.

Halloween party for girls and their dads Oct. 8

There will be a father-daughter dance “Halloween Party” for girls enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Lower Macungie Community Center. The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the fire station at Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on fire prevention, face painting, fire truck tours, Medevac helicopter tours, food and beverages.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7 to discuss “The Hollow Ground” by Natalie Harnett. The book for Oct. 5 is “The Nightingale” by Kristen Hannah.

New at the library are museum passes for the Allentown Art Museum, America on Wheels and the Liberty Bell Museum.

Mexican Folkloric Dance Group Xochiquetzal will perform 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at the library. The dance group of six dancers and a singer are led by teacher and director Martha Monroy and strive to preserve the traditions and culture of Mexico.

Wheels of Time Rod and Custom Jamboree Aug. 26 to 28 to host Arthur Fonzerelli

The 38th Annual Wheels of Time Rod and Custom Jamboree will be held Aug. 26 to 28 at Macungie Memorial Park. The event helps support local charities and the scholarship program for local automotive technology graduates. Over 1,500 custom cars and street rods from all over the east coast will be on display.

Look for a mermaid at the Lower Macungie Pool summer kickoff party June 26

The Lower Macungie Pool is open noon to 8 p.m. daily. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 16, 20 and 27 and July 18 for swim meets. A summer kickoff party is planned 1 to 5 p.m. June 26 with a DJ from Bar None Entertainment playing tunes 1 to 3 p.m. and a mermaid visit 3 to 5 p.m. There will be a DJ Pool Party with Wesley Works 5 to 7 p.m. July 15. Registration for Lower Macungie Township Pool swim lessons can be made by contacting the Lower Macungie Township Community Center 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
