The 54th Annual Das Awkscht Fescht, one of the country’s largest antique and classic car shows, will take place Aug. 4 to 6 at Macungie Memorial Park. Gates open 6 a.m. for walk-ins and show cars enter after 7:30 a.m. The featured car this year is the vintage Chevrolet Club of America. The flea market remains open until dusk and craft vendors are open until 9 p.m. Musical entertainment continues until 10:30 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 and until 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7. The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Aug. 2 to discuss “The Marriage of Opposites” by Alice Hoffman. The book for Sept. 6 is “Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter” by Kate Clifford Lawson.
The eighth annual Ben Event will take place July 14 and 15 at Macungie Memorial Park. Ben Yorgey was an Emmaus High School graduate/special needs student who died in 2009. Ben’s parents Kent and Ardyth Yorgey have established the Ben Yorgey Foundation to help graduating high school students with similar disabilities lead independent and productive lives. The event will kickoff 5:30 p.m. July 14. The Ben Event One Mile Fun Walk will be held 7:15 p.m.
The Lower Macungie Pool is open daily noon to 8 p.m. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 26 and July 6 and 13 for swim meets. A summer kickoff party will be held 1 to 5 p.m. June 25 with Bar None Entertainment 1 to 3 p.m. and a mermaid visit 3 to 5 p.m. A DJ pool party with Wesley Works will be held 5 to 7 p.m. July 14. Children’s author/illustrator Micha Archer will visit Lower Macungie Library 2 to 3 p.m. April 20 to share her book “Daniel Finds a Poem.” There will be a storytime, craft and activity. The first 50 registered children in attendance will receive a copy of the book.
A program “Royal Women Rule” will be held 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 26. Heather Simoneau will lead an informal discussion on the influence of women on the British monarchy and world affairs. Tea and scones will be served.
