'Shrek The Musical' makes Valley debut in Sing for America benefit for veterans

Wednesday, July 10, 2013 by DIANE BAKOS Special to The Press in Focus

"Shrek The Musical" makes its Lehigh Valley premier this summer.

It's the latest offering of Sing For America, the group composed of five siblings Taryn, Teara, Tasia, Jewel and Jorne Gilbert well-known for their elaborate stage productions and vocal performances in the Valley.

But what really makes Sing For America stand out from other area theater companies is that all of the profits go directly to the local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., to help military families.

Cohn walking on audience requests

You wouldn't expect a Grammy award-winning artist to invite requests from the audience during his concerts, but singer-songwriter Marc Cohn says he thrives on that kind exchange of energy.

Which means the Musikfest Café in Bethlehem should be ideal for his concert there, 8 p.m. June 7, since few sit more than about 60 feet from the stage.

"I usually prefer small theaters, or any place where the audience is partly visible and right up close," says Cohn. "It makes for a much more personal, intimate show. I like knowing who's out there."
