Christkindlmarkt 2018 set record of 90,000 visitors

More than 90,000 visitors attended Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem, the holiday marketplace at SteelStacks in Bethlehem weekends from Nov. 15-Dec. 23, setting a new attendance record for the event. Total 2018 attendance was 92,297, up nearly four percent over the previous record of 88,923 set in 2017.

Celebrating its 26th year, Christkindlmarkt included a record number of artisans and vendors, more than 200 in all, including 48 who were at the market for the first time.

The Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) released its annual report at its 2018 Community Annual Meeting Dec. 5 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.

Operating income, or the amount reinvested into facilities and services in fiscal year 2018, was $35.1 million, or a margin of 1.3 percent.

Technology Center building donated at LCCC campus

The building housing the Technology Center on the Lehigh Carbon Community College Schnecksville campus, which has been owned by LCCC ILP, an Allentown-based limited partnership, since it was constructed 15 years ago, was donated to the LCCC Foundation at a Dec. 14 ceremony.

The estimated value of the building is $10.7 million.

Sales of houses in LV up slightly in October

Closed sales for houses in the Lehigh Valley increased slightly in October.

Closed sales increased 0.4 percent to 718 houses sold, up from 715 houses sold in October 2017, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) October report, released Nov. 14.

For the year-to-date, the percentage of closed sales for 2018 is up slightly, by 0.1 percent, with 7,081 houses sold, compared to 7,077 houses sold year-to-date in 2017.

Phoebe Ministries finalized the purchase Nov. 1 and 2 of the former Rodale property, 10th and Arch streets, Emmaus.
