Allentown couple 10,000th participant in AFC Energy program

An Allentown couple was honored recently for taking out the 10,000th loan in the Keystone Home Energy Loan Program (HELP) to upgrade the heating system, increase the comfort level and save money at their home.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord visited the Allen Street, West End Allentown, home of David and Michelle Olson to mark the milestone and to help raise the profile of the loan program so more homeowners can gain the advantages that an energy upgrade can provide.

Sacred Heart taps Bariatric director

Joni Young has been appointed Director of Bariatric Services, Sacred Heart Hospital.

Young's primary responsibilities include managing the development and execution of Bariatric program goals, completing financial analysis and formulating plans to accomplish objectives.

She previously was a Healthcare Consultant and Regional Manager for the Cardiac Service Line, St. Luke's University Health Network; a Manager of Operations, Pocono Medical Center, and Director of Patient Services, PPNEP.

St. Luke's, DaVinci partner for 'Year of Human Body'

The Da Vinci Science Center and St. Luke's University Health Network have announced a partnership in the "Year of the Human Body" project, featuring the "Bodies Revealed."

The exhibition, to open Oct. 6 and continue through Feb. 10, 2013, uses anatomical specimens to take visitors on a three-dimensional tour of the human body.

St. Luke's - Bethlehem relocates wound center

St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem has opened a new Wound Management Center, replacing the location at St. Luke's Union Station on SouthSide Bethlehem.

The new Wound Management Center is at St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem, 801 Ostrum St., at the "A" Entrance at the Priscilla Payne Hurd Pavilion. Hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Wound centers treat patients with non-healing wounds often complicated by diabetes, vascular problems and other underlying diseases.

Rev. James L. Heft, S.M., and Ph.D., will deliver "Catholic High Schools: Facing the New Realities," the 2012 Ruggiero Lecture, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13, University Center, DeSales University, Center Valley.

The event, sponsored by the Salesian Center for Faith & Culture at DeSales, is free and open to the public.

Heft is the Alton Brooks Professor of Religion and president of the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies at the University of Southern California, and author of the book, "Catholic High Schools: Facing the New Realities."

LVAR appoints sales director

Melody Bradford has been named Sales Director of The Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors (LVAR).

Bradford oversees sales of advertising space, manages the content, artistic development and marketing of LVAR's publication, Lehigh Valley Real Estate Weekly; its website, LVAR.org; and e-newsletter, In the Know. She also oversees the LVAR Sponsor-Affiliate program.

She was account manager at Millennium Medical Education Resources, Ltd., where she received the Largest Sale and Largest Publisher Sale Awards in 2011 and Top Prospector accolades.

Second quarter housing sales up 16.7 percent, LVAR reports

The Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors (LVAR) has released a new report on housing market data today that confirms a strengthening housing market.

The initial quarterly report lists positive indicators showing second quarter 2012 home sales have increased 16.7 percent over second quarter sales the previous year.

Pending sales were up 25 percent forecasting the potential for increased sales in the coming months.

An additional sign that the housing market is on the road to recovery is the decrease in inventory of homes for sale, down 16.6 percent over last year.

It's 'Harvest Weekend' time on Lehigh Valley Wine Trail

The Lehigh Valley Wine Trail celebrates the grape harvest annual "Harvest Weekend," 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sept. 8 and noon - 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at eight wineries with tastings, vineyard and winery tours, food and wine pairings, and entertainment.

The wineries will promote the state's "Pennsylvania Preferred" program by partnering with producers of Pennsylvania specialties.

PBS39 hosts its second annual open house, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sept. 8, at the Public Media and Education Center, 839 Sesame St., Bethlehem.

The event, free and open to the public, features live music by Blue Sour, moon bounces, storytelling by Kristin Pedemonti, studio tours, educational workshops and an Elmo scavenger hunt.
