Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) has announced a five-year strategic affiliation with CVS Health with the goal of increasing community-level health initiatives, co-branding preventive care programs and the secured sharing of clinical data via electronic health records (EHR) to benefit patients and customers.

House sales in Lehigh Valley decline 7.2 percent in July

House sales in the Lehigh Valley took a dive in the midst of the peak housing sales season.

Closed sales for houses in the Lehigh Valley dropped a significant 7.2 percent, with 814 houses sold, compared to 877 houses sold in July 2018, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) monthly report released Aug. 13.

Closed sales for the first seven months of 2019 are up slightly, 0.2 percent, to 4,791 from 4,780 for the first seven months of 2018.

LV house sales statistics show no increase in June

At the midway point in 2019, Lehigh Valley house sales were flat in June in the start of what is traditionally the peak residential real estate summer sales season.

Closed sales for houses in the Lehigh Valley showed no increase in June, 0.0 percent in June, with 901 houses sold, identical to 901 houses sold in June 2018, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) monthly report released July 15.

Closed sales for the first six months of 2019 are up slightly, 1.3 percent, to 3,955 from 3,903 for the first six months of 2019.

Wells Fargo, Hammer Electric aid St. Luke’s meals program

Free summer lunches for students at St. Luke’s Sacred Heart are being provided with help from Wells Fargo and West Side Hammer Electric.

St. Luke’s University Health Network launched the Summer Meals Program in Allentown to make sure no child goes without a nutritious lunch during summer months.

Children and teens ages 18 and younger can visit St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Campus, noon - 2 p.m. Monday - Friday for a free healthy meal.

Lehigh Valley Hospital - 17th Street landmark in LVHN 120th anniversary

The year was 1899 when The Allentown Hospital opened its doors at what is now Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) - 17th Street in Allentown.

One-hundred-twenty years later, the Lehigh Valley Health Network has grown to provide care at eight hospital campuses throughout eastern Pennsylvania, numerous physician practices, health centers and ExpressCARE locations.

St. Luke’s compliance officer teaches at DeSales, Moravian

Growing up in the projects on the South Side of Chicago, Nicole Huff would help her younger siblings learn to read. Later, in high school, she was part of a peer ministry that would tutor elementary students.

Huff’s love of sharing knowledge would ultimately bring her to St. Luke’s University Health Network as Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer and, eventually, as an adjunct professor at DeSales University and Moravian College.

Fast-track admission

LCCC receives $25,000 teachers grant

Lehigh Carbon Community College is one of the recipients of a statewide Teacher in the Workplace (TIW) grant, in partnership with the Workforce Board Lehigh Valley to shine the light on local manufacturing careers by introducing teachers to local companies.

The $25,000 grant is part of $2.6 million awarded statewide by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.

Teachers from Allentown, Salisbury and Whitehall-Coplay school districts are spending time over the next few weeks at Mack Trucks, Lutron, B. Braun Medical, Uline and ATAS.

May LV house sales trend upward

Lehigh Valley house sales increased slightly in May, continuing a positive trend for two months in a row.

Closed sales for houses in the Lehigh Valley increased 0.4 percent in May, with 815 houses sold, up from 812 houses sold in May 2018, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) monthly report released June 12.

Closed sales for the first five months of 2019 are up slightly, 0.3 percent, to 3,010 from 3,002 for the first five months of 2018.

Closed house sales had rebounded in April, reversing a three-month decline in the first quarter of 2019.

St. Luke’s plans fifth fitness center

St. Luke’s University Health Network is to open its fifth Fitness & Sports Performance Facility in the Lehigh Valley, one designed specifically for athletes.

The 30,000-square-foot building along Union Boulevard, Allentown, is to open in September. It joins facilities in West End Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Phillipsburg.

The location is that of the former Pig Pen Fun Bar, in the vicinity of Coca-Cola Park.
