UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD COLUMN
The annual Vera Cruz Homecoming, sponsored by the Vera Cruz Community Association and held rain or shine, is Vera Cruz’s version of a community block party and is open to everyone, residents and non-residents alike.
The annual event will be held at Mystic Chain Park on Main Road East in Vera Cruz noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 18.
The day’s events will begin 9 a.m. with a community homecoming service at the Vera Cruz E.C. Church, 5501 Vera Cruz Road. The service will feature special music.
Homecoming will truly be a family event, with children’s entertainment to include a face painter, children’s games and a bounce house. Other entertainment will include cake walks and bingo. Musical entertainment will feature the Rehrig Brothers, who are returning to Vera Cruz Homecoming this year and will take the stage noon to 3 p.m. The Large Flowerheads will perform 5 to 8 p.m.
Fans of local media personality Uncle Jeffrey will definitely want to visit homecoming. Jeff Tapler, known to most as Uncle Jeffrey, will broadcast his weekly Health and Happiness show live from the park 3 to 5 p.m.
Homemade food will be provided by the Vera Cruz Community Association, as well as plenty of ice cream and hot dogs.

Bible study week is going on this week at Milford Park Bible Camp in Zionsville. It continues 7 p.m. Aug. 7, 8 and 9. Bible study is taught in the lounge by Bruce Heffner. All are welcome.
All programs and services at Milford Park are open to everyone and will take place rain or shine.
On Aug. 10, there will be a gospel concert by Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass from Fort Wayne, Ind.
Aug. 17 is the final day of programs for this summer at Milford Park. Festivities will begin 10:30 a.m. with Ladies Day, featuring Christobel Braden, followed by a ladies’ luncheon noon. There is a cost. Call 610-967-5382 for luncheon tickets.
At 7 p.m., there will be a concert by The Macungie Band.

The Lower Milford Township fall festival will be held Sept. 28. If you are a vendor, crafter, demonstrator, nonprofit, food vendor or entertainer, the festival organizers are looking for you!
Vendors can set up on Friday night or Saturday morning (setup finished by 9:45 a.m. for the safety of attendees). All vendors must remain until the 5 p.m. closing. Last year the festival had over 1,200 visitors, so don’t miss the chance to sell and show your products and talent to the community!
There will be a silent auction during the festival, with all proceeds going toward the Lower Milford Township National Historic Registry Fund.
The auction will open 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. You may bid on items by utilizing the “Buy It Now” feature for the items you love.
Baskets can be picked up 5 p.m. Sept. 28 or by visiting the township office between regular business hours the following week. Appointments can be made if necessary.
Registration is open for fall sports with Upper Milford Youth Association at www.umya.org. If it is your first time registering for sports this year, you will be required to set up your family profile as a first step. This is a one-time process to assist in transitioning you to the new registration platform. If you have already paid the family membership fee for this year, you do not need to do so again. If you have not yet paid the family membership fee, you are asked to do so along with your fall sports registration.
Registration for micro soccer and recreational soccer has closed, but registration for other soccer programs will close Aug. 15.

The Upper Milford Historical Society meets the last Thursday of every month except November and December. On Aug. 29, the Rev. Tom Kochenderfer will present “Musing of an Old Man: Pastor Muhlehberg Reflecting on His Life.” Retired Pastor Kochenderfer will be bringing to life Pastor Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the first ordained Lutheran minister sent to early Pennsylvania.
This will be a serious, yet amusing portrayal of Muhlenberg’s life (1711-1787) and colonial times. For more information, call 610-966-4376.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz usually meets 7:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Department Social Hall. They’re always looking for new members. The ladies help support the department by lending a hand in fundraising and other assistance when needed.

The Western District Fire Company on Route 100 usually serves breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first Sunday of the month, The September breakfast will be Sept. 1. For information on the breakfasts, call the fire company at 610-966-3541 or Carol Shade at 610-966-3902.
The Upper Milford Fire Company’s ladies auxiliary meets 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month. New members are always welcome.
Vera Cruz senior citizens meet 1 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.
Lower Milford Township supervisors usually meet the first and third Thursday of the month, beginning 6:30 p.m. Supervisors will meet Aug. 15.
Other Lower Milford meetings are as follows; historical commission, 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13; recreation and open space committee, 7 p.m. Aug. 14.
Upper Milford supervisors will meet Aug. 15. There is a workshop meeting 7 p.m. followed by the regular meeting 7:30 p.m.
The recreation commission meets 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19.
The Joint Environmental Advisory Council will meet 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at Churchview Park, Kohler Road, Zionsville.
The open space committee meets 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14, only if required to conduct business. Check with the township office to find out if the committee will meet this month. The emergency services committee meets 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month, also only if required to conduct business.
