Emmaus’ Caden Wright competed in last weekend’s PIAA Class 3A Wrestling Championship at Hershey’s Giant Center.

Wright, who finished second in both District 11 and the Northeast Region this season, opened this year’s state tournament with a 1-0 decision over Selinsgrove sophomore Coy Bastian, the second-place finisher from the Northwest Region.

Wright dropped his next bout, a 170-pound quarterfinal, 10-2 to Canon McMillen’s Gerrit Nijenhuis, a junior who entered the tournament at 40-3 and went on to win this year’s gold medal.

Wright was eliminated in his first cosolation bout, falling 6-0 to Dillon Keane (Bradford), the first-place finisher from the Northwest Region who entered the tournament at 35-0.

Wright, a junior, ends his season with a record of 26-8.
