Open house scheduled Feb. 24 at Allentown Central

Allentown Central Catholic High School will host an open house 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 24. Visiting families can tour the school and talk with students, teachers and administrators.

ACCHS’ new tuition discount program has been announced for the Class of 2023. Any incoming freshman who submits their application and early tuition payment by March 15 will receive $500 off their 2019-2020 tuition.

A Vikette Derby “Night at the Races” will be held in Masson Auditorium 7 to 10 p.m. March 2 to benefit the ACCHS girls lacrosse and cheerleaders. The event will feature dinner, unlimited beverages, raffle baskets and 50/50 prizes. There is a cost for tickets and to name your horse. Attendees must be 21 or older.

The swim team celebrated their senior night Feb. 2. Viking seniors included John Cardiges, Brendan Kern and Tommy Zukowski. Vikette seniors included Lily Atiyeh, Erin Chlebove, Mairin Cunningham, Amanda Svetz and Ciana Walkosak.

The Viking basketball teams held their senior night Feb. 6 during a game against Northampton, who Central beat 42-41. Basketball seniors included Chad Kratzer and Samuel Vaughan. The senior cheerleaders were also honored; they included Annalis Gasdaska, Keara Healy, Grace Peoples and Julia Santos.

Both the Vikings and Vikettes competed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference quarterfinals Feb. 8. The Vikings were defeated by Emmaus 58-42 and the Vikettes were bested by Northampton 53-36. Two members of the basketball program were named to the EPC All-Star 2nd Team: Viking senior Chad Kratzer and Vikette senior Jess Davis.

The Vikette junior high basketball team recently finished its season with a record of 15-0. The Viking junior high basketball team also closed out its season with a record of 17-1. Both teams had excellent seasons and Central’s coaches are excited to see what these players can do for ACCHS’ teams.

Justin Pasquale will be honored March 3 at the 59th annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Lehigh Valley Chapter Scholar-Athlete Dinner at the Northampton Banquet and Event Center. Pasquale is a wide receiver and kick returner for the Viking football team and ranks 23rd out of 173 students. He is a member of National Honor Society, a member of the Inspiring Hearts program at Sacred Heard Hospital and a volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Zoo. He also plays varsity lacrosse for ACCHS and will play lacrosse at Elizabethtown College.

Senior forensic science students Kellee Heydorn and Gina Vicario, alumni of St. Ann School in Emmaus, attended the first annual science fair at St. Ann’s with their teacher, Gerard Caprio. They demonstrated footwear analysis to the students and helped make the science fair a success.

The 45th annual Allentown Diocesan Music Festival was held Feb. 2 at Berks Catholic High School in Reading. The concert featured performances from a concert band and chorus made up of students from Allentown Central Catholic, Berks Catholic, Bethlehem Catholic, Marian Catholic, Nativity B.V.M. and Notre Dame. Central’s band was represented by Meghan Cowen, Michael Fleck, Chris Horn, Meagan Niechwiadowicz, Brittany Regan and Maria Romero. The chorus was represented by Robert Garza, Tess Horn, Riley Loz, Sophia Servagno and Natalie Woytek.

The Central Catholic Green and Gold mock trial teams competed at the Lehigh County Courthouse Feb. 5. Both teams won their trials and advanced to the second round of the competition Feb. 11. Mock trial is an extracurricular activity in which team members analyze and simulate a court case provided by the Pennsylvania Bar Association to compete against other high schools by acting out the roles of attorneys and witnesses.

The ACCHS Performing Arts Association enjoyed a five day trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 6-11. The chorus, concert/marching bands and dance team participated in workshops with Disney professionals and performed in Disney Springs, an outdoor dining, shopping and entertainment complex. The marching band also marched in the Magic Kingdom during a pre-parade show.
