Emmaus High School students encouraged to join clubs

There are a number of clubs at Emmaus High School looking for new members.

For interested Pennsylvania Math League members, try out the Math Madness online competitions. The first meeting is Sept. 13, where there will be more information and practice materials. To learn more, see Mrs. Adams in Room 369.

Any ninth grade student interested in Student Government Advisory should pick up an application from their social studies teacher. Completed applications should be returned to Mrs. Montero in Room 537 by Sept. 21.

EHS’s ceramics club will meet 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays in Room 520 and will typically last for one hour.

Buzz Magazine will hold its first full club meeting 2:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in the learning lab. New articles and photo shoots are uploaded monthly. Visit http://www.ehsbuzzmagazine.com for more information on the magazine.

There will be a Young Democrats meeting Sept. 13 in Room 310. All members, as well as anyone interested in learning more about the club, are welcome.

Freshmen are asked to log into their Class of 2022 Google Classroom. Campaigning for class officers will take place through Sept. 14 and elections will be held online via the Google Classroom page Sept. 17 through 20.

Emmaus Borough Council is now accepting applications for a junior council member. This is a great opportunity for a student to learn how local government functions and to have a voice in the process. Students must be residents of Emmaus and students in good standing at EHS.

Interested candidates should submit a one to two page essay entitled, “Why community-centered service learning is important to me.” Essays should be taken to the main office to the attention of Dr. Kieres and must be received by Sept 21. See the following link for more information from the PA State Association of Boroughs – http://boroughs.org/ckfinder/userfiles/files/FinalBrochureJune2017.pdf. Students in all grades are encouraged to apply.

Depending on the number of candidates, priority consideration may be offered to underclassmen to ensure duration of service in the role. Contact Dr. Kieres or Ms. Rodriguez with any questions.

EHS will be closed Sept. 19 and dismiss 11 a.m. Sept. 21.

Girls lacrosse will have a team meeting in Room 578 after school Sept. 24 for anyone wanting to play in the spring. Fall and winter training will be discussed as well as fundraisers.

Financial aid night will be held in the EHS auditorium 6 p.m. Sept. 27.

EHS will be closed Oct. 8 and 9.

The PSAT will be administered at EHS 8 a.m. Oct. 10.
