Air Force veteran

Elmer R. “Sonny” Rice, 81, of Macungie, formerly of Zionsville, died March 5, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Health Network, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Alice H. (Arthur) Rice. They were married for 59-1/2 years. Born in Macungie, he was the son of the late Elmer V. and Clara (Miller) Rice.

He was an Air Force veteran and earned the rank of airman first class.

Prior to retiring in 1999, he was a small tool mechanic employed at Knoll, Inc. for 38 years.

A former member of Church of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Alburtis, he served on the board of Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling and had coached softball for Upper Milford Youth Association.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Robert L. and his wife, Carolyn M., of Emmaus, Dennis M. and his wife, Tammy S., of Zionsville; daughter, Lori R. and her husband Allan S. Bennicoff, of Macungie; grandchildren, Rebecca, Sarah, Cody, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Amanda, Alyssa; great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Isabella.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. March 8 at the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown. Calling will be 10 a.m. until time of service.
