of Macungie

Rev. Ralph James Stevenson, 69, of Macungie, died Jan. 15, 2018, in the Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Christal (Wentz) Stevenson. They were married for 46 years last May. Born in Shamokin, he was the son of Mary (Salvatore) Stevenson, of Shamokin and the late Ralph Thomas Stevenson.

He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.Va. and Drew University in Madison, N.J. He was involved in ecumenical groups in Bucks and Monroe counties, a member of the Rotary Club, served on the board of the Barrett Library in Mountainhome, directed youth and senior citizen camps for several years at Pocono Plateau and was a member of the Washington District Fire Company in Tallmansville, W.Va.

He was called to be a pastor at a young age. He served churches since 1969, during college a 7-charge church in West Virginia, while attending seminary at St. John’s UMC, Ivyland, at Washington Crossing UMC, Washington Crossing, Neshamony UMC, Hulmeville, Canadensis UMC, Canadensis and Bethany UMC, Wescosville.

He loved his family and enjoyed being with his friends.

He is survived by his wife; mother; son, Russell and his wife Tabitha, of Glenside; daughter, Emily and her husband Matt Gren, of Allentown; sister, Beth Scott, of Downingtown; grandsons, Brayden and Caleb, of Glenside; sister-in-laws; brother-in-laws; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father; father- and mother-in-law, John and Sadie Wentz.

Burial will be held this summer in West Virginia. Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
