Lower Lehigh Lions Club flea market and garage sale Sept. 9

The Macungie Farmers Market is open 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday through October. The market features local farmers providing home grown fruits, vegetables, meat products, eggs, baked goods, plants and more. Parking is available at the park parking lot and along North Walnut Street.

Macungie Memorial Park is a self-supporting park and depends on events and donations to keep the pool, playground, grounds, ballfields and bathrooms operable. If you are interested in volunteering to help with events, contact Amy at 610-966-4289 or email macungiepark@gmail.com.

Solomon’s United Church of Christ, 82 S. Church St., Macungie, will hold a Polka Mass with the Heidelberg Brass Band 10:15 a.m. Sept. 10. The liturgical service will have Christian lyrics with polka, waltz and march tunes.

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Russ Rentler will perform songs from his new CD 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Macungie Institute. He will be accompanied by Judy Terwilliger and Brenden Hackett on fiddle and bass, respectively. Tickets are available at the door.

The Parkland Art League will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Macungie Institute. Watercolorist Karen Benco will be the guest demonstrator. Benco has received numerous awards and will be featured in the August/September issue of the International Artist Magazine.

Lehigh Valley Animal Hospital will hold Paws in the Park Sept. 23 at Macungie Memorial Park.

There will be a Southwestern Lehigh County Comprehensive Plan Public Meeting 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Lower Macungie Community Center. Information will be available for viewing 6:30 p.m.

The Autumn Mineralfest will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at Macungie Memorial Park. There will be dealers and tables of minerals, fossils, gems, geodes, crystals and more. The ninth annual Barktoberfest Pet Fair will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at Macungie Memorial Park. Rev. Werner M. The Macungie Park Board of Directors meeting will be held downstairs 7 p.m. Sept. 26. The public is welcome.

Ben started middle school this week and so far has posted mixed reviews on the experience. As he rode to school with his dad, he observed, “I don’t want to go to high school. Then you have to get up even earlier than for middle school.”

He continued, “I like summer vacation. I wish it was summer vacation all the time. I used to have it so good, but then Mom enrolled me in pre-K.”
