Macungie Farmers Market opens May 18

The Macungie Farmers Market will hold its 11th season grand opening 4 to 7 p.m. May 18. The market features local family farmers providing home grown food: fruits, vegetables, meat products, eggs, baked goods, plants and more. The Farmers Market will be open 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday through October except Aug. 24. Parking is available at the park parking lot and along North Walnut Street.

A spring youth tennis program will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday May 9 to June 1 at Macungie Memorial Park at the outdoors tennis courts. For more information, contact Bruce Kisthardt at 610-395-4923 or e-mail bkisthardt@msn.com.

The Parkland Art League will hold its next meeting at the Macungie Institute 7 p.m. May 9 with acrylic artist Aryn Coyle demonstrating her painting in heavy textures and bold colors, using gel mediums. Relay for Life will be held 4 p.m. May 5 through 4 p.m. May 6 at Macungie Memorial Park. Relay For Life is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to raising funds for American Cancer Society for its cancer education, programs, advocacy and research.

There will be a Lehigh Valley Bird Expo 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6 at Macungie Memorial Park.

There will be a Heroes Helping Heroes Blood Drive and Pet Fair event noon to 5 p.m. May 7 at Macungie Memorial Park.

There will be a GM On Display Car Show on May 7 at Macungie Memorial Park.

The Mid-Atlantic Cavy Breeders Association Show will be held May 13 and 14 at Macungie Memorial Park.

There will be a Latex Paint Recycling Event for Lower Macungie Township, Alburtis Borough and Macungie Borough residents 9 a.m. to noon May 13 at the Lower Macungie Township municipal building. Habitat Lehigh Valley will recycle the paint into a product called “recolor.”

Macungie Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual children’s fishing contest 8 a.m. to noon May 20 at Swabia Creek behind Allen Organ. Each registered child receives a hot dog and soda. Arrive early to register.

There will be a cruise night May 20 at Macungie Memorial Park. Hot rods will start arriving 3 p.m.

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St. will host a Dixieland Jazz service 10:30 a.m. May 21. The Dixieland All Stars will perform under the direction of Kevin O’Connell, retired director of the Eyer Junior High Band. The Macungie Minstrelaires will also perform. The public is invited to attend this service.

Macungie Pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. May 27 to Aug. 27 weekdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends. On weekdays, there is Toddler Time 11 a.m. to noon. Discounted family memberships are offered until May 20. Swim lessons are available. For information, call 610-966-5757.

The Macungie VFW will host Memorial Day activities May 29 beginning with a flag raising 8:30 a.m. The parade will begin 10 a.m. The parade route will be on Main Street from Buttonwood to Poplar streets. There will be Memorial Day celebrations at Macungie Memorial Park following the parade.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Macungie VFW Post 9264 meets 1 p.m. May 19 at the post home. Macungie Rod and Gun Club Board meets 7 p.m. May 18 at the club.

Borough council meets 7:30 p.m. May 15 at borough hall, 21 Locust St., Macungie.

The Macungie Park Board of Directors meeting will be held downstairs 7 p.m. May 30. The public is welcome.
