Steel erection is underway for a three-story addition to the south side of the Kasych Family Pavilion at the Cedar Crest Campus of Lehigh Valley Health Network.
"In an effort to improve the patient experience at Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest, we are adding an additional 24-bed medical/surgical unit with all private rooms," Lehigh Valley Health Network spokesman Matthew Burns said.
"Our patients have told us that they prefer all private rooms, so we are expanding our Kasych Family Pavilion to accommodate that request. The plan calls for fitting-out the currently 'shelled' fourth floor and installing the steel construction to enclose floors five through seven to allow for more future growth," Burns said.
"The fourth floor will have an additional 17,000 square feet of space which will be used as a 24-bed medical/surgical unit. In the original plans for the Kasych Family Pavilion, the fourth floor of the south tower was intentionally left empty to prevent the disruption of patient care in the event that the building would have to be expanded at a later date."
Burns said the target date for the completion of the project is May 2014.
