Hornets' Bray earns Reinhart Scholarship

Wednesday, July 24, 2013 by The Press in Sports

At the July 10 Lehigh Valley Road Runner Summer Series 5K, the 2013 Nicole Reinhart Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Emmaus High School graduate Lindsey Bray.

Bray was a standout cross country and track athlete for the Green Hornets. She was a varsity letter winner for four years in cross country and was the captain of the EHS girl's team her senior year.

Bray participated in the PIAA Cross Country Championships three of her four years and was a member of two PIAA state championship teams (2010, 2011). Individually, she placed sixth at the District 11 championships in her senior year, which qualified her to run in the 2012 PIAA State Championship meet. Her best time ever in the 5K was a 20:01

She also ran for the Emmaus girl's track team. Her main events were the 800-meter run and the mile. She ran best times of 2:24 in the 800 and 5:25 in the mile.

Bray would have run in the District 11 Track Championships had it not been for her additional commitment to the EHS Marine physical fitness team, which is also a spring activity.

Bray was a member of the fitness team for four years. Each year that she competed, the team won the girl's national Marine fitness championship. In her senior year, Bray was the second overall female in the competition. The event is held each May in San Diego, CA.

Nicole Reinhart was also a member of the EHS Marine Physical Fitness team and was the only three-time individual national champion in the history of the competition.

Next year, Lindsey will be attending Liberty University, in Lynchburg, VA. She does plan on running for the varsity cross country and track teams while attending Liberty.

This scholarship is funded through profits from the Emmaus 4 Miler. This year's 36th annual race was held on Sunday, April 14 and was sold out for the fourth year in a row.
