EMMAUS COLUMN Happy Easter Emmaus

The Emmaus Lions Club is holding its 5th annual "Nite at the Races" March 9 at Upper Milford West District Fire Co., Routes 29 and 100 in Old Zionsville. Doors open at 5 p.m.; first race is 6:30 p.m. Your ticket includes fun, food, drinks (BYOB) and door prizes. Proceeds are used to fund the club's charity projects. The Emmaus Rotary Club presents The Fabulous Greaseband, 7 p.m. March 15 at the Allentown Fairgrounds, 302 N. 17th St. Proceeds support the club's local and international projects. BYOB and snacks for a fun evening of music and dancing. For tickets, visit www.EmmausRotary.org.

The Emmaus Garden Club will host the club's first meeting of the year, noon March 5 at Faith Presbyterian Church, North 2nd and Cherokee streets. A light lunch will be served before the 1 p.m. program. Guest speaker Myra Fenza, owner of a custom floral design business, Floral Accents in Allentown, will present "Art in Bloom." The Emmaus Winter Farmers' Market will take place 10 a.m. to noon every other Sunday in 2013 until the regular market starts up again in May. The winter market dates in March are March 10 and 24. The Emmaus Historical Society museum, 563 Chestnut St. is open noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday. The museum will be decorated with vintage winter memorabilia and photos of local blizzards, including the Great Blizzard of 1888. The Society's March meeting program, "The Rodale Manufacturing Company," is 7 p.m. March 27 (note the date change) at St. John's Lutheran Church parish hall,5th and Chestnut streets. Former Rodale employees are invited to attend and join the historical society members in a nostalgic evening.

Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. March 4 and 18 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. The offices will be closed March 29 for the Good Friday holiday.

The compost center and curbside yard waste pick-up site off Kline's Lane will open March 13. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or dusk Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For information, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us or call 610-965-9292.

The Emmaus Kiwanis Club's annual Easter Egg Hunt at Emmaus Community Park is set for March 30. The hunt begins promptly at 1 p.m. so plan to be there prior to that time because the hunt lasts only a few minutes.
