Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by LOU WHEELAND Special to The Press in Local News

Two hundred regional Boy Scout leaders and Scouts with the Minsi Trails Council attended a recent awards dinner at Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield.

Six local leaders, Dr. Michael Dolan and Michael Faccinetto, both of Bethlehem, Michael Gaugler, of Whitehall, Grant Kotz, of Alburtis, Brian O'Leary, of Easton, and Dr. Donald Snyder, of Orefield, were honored for their outstanding service to the youth in the community and were given the Silver Beaver Award at the Jan. 25 dinner. Kyle McCarthy of Troop 83, East Stroudsburg, received the Heroism Award. McCarthy came to the aid of a classmate who was hyperventilating after an outdoor activity at school.

The Scout quickly recognized the symptoms of hyperventilation and took appropriate measures.

The student recovered and returned to class later that day.
