Golfers get huge win over K-Kids

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 by The Press in HS Sports

The Emmaus golf team got a big effort from its top three players to earn a key Lehigh Valley Conference tri-match win over Northampton and Easton last Thursday at Riverview Country Club.

Grant Schmaker posted a three-under par 69 and Kyle Wambold shot a two-under 70 to lead the Hornets to a 365 total.

Carlos Fullerton shot 72 and Mike Lessel (76) and Chris Erb (78) filled out the top five with good scores.

Northampton, tabbed by head coach Mike Mihalik as the team to beat in the conference, came in second with 380. They were missing top player Evan Notaro, the 2010 District 11 champion.

Kevin Kunkle filled in by matching Wambold's 70. Easton was a distant third in the match, firing 435, paced by Emily Enrue's 84.

The win gives the Hornets the inside track to an LVC crown with a pivotal match against rival Parkland taking place on Tuesday.
