Aug. 15

The Shelter House Society will host their annual membership picnic 6 p.m. at The Shelter House. Entertainment will be provided by the Emmaus Moravian Church Brass Choir. Guests are invited to bring their favorite covered dish to share. Drinks and assorted meat and cheese trays will be provided. For more information call 610-965-5119.

The Emmaus Historical Society will host an antique appraisal program 4 to 8 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 5th and Chestnut streets. There will be five certified appraisers and participants can pre-register by calling 610-966-6591 by Aug. 3.

The 17th annual Quakertown Farmers Market food drive has been extended through Aug. 26. All donations can be brought to the market office located at exit four. The market is looking for dry and canned goods to assist needy families.

Aug. 18

First Annual Ride for Dallas's Kids motorcycle ride to benefit the children of a local Navy veteran who passed away suddenly. Registration will be 9 to 11 a.m. at Catholic War Vets, 721 Furnace St., Emmaus. Kick stands up at 11:30 a.m. The run will be ending at the Emmaus VFW, 316 Main Street, Emmaus. There will be refreshments, food, live entertainment and a check presentation for the children's trust fund at the VFW after the ride.

Huff's Union Church, Hereford Township, will host a picnic at the church. Food and baked goods will be available after 4 p.m. rain or shine. The Walt Groller Orchestra will provide entertainment 6 to 9 p.m. weather permitting.

Aug. 20

The Community Action Development Corporation of Allentown will host a "Start Your Business" 20-week program 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at 702 Hamilton Street, Allentown. The entrepreneurial training program was created for people with low- to moderate-income who are thinking about starting a business or expanding their current business in the neighborhoods of center city Allentown. There will be a fee.

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America will host a free Girl Scout bowling party at AMF Parkway Lanes, 1630 South 12th St., Allentown, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Girls in the Emmaus and Salisbury area interested in joining Girl Scouts are invited to attend. There will be raffles and giveaways.

Aug. 22

Order deadline for Homemade Corn Pie Sale by Trexlertown Grange with choice of nine inch corn pie plain or with chicken. There is a cost. Pickup orders between 4 and 6 p.m. Aug. 24. To place an order, call 610-395-3858 or 610-966-4460.
